Feel free to drop any comments about BTWD here, including the single plastic wraps on the shirts. Last year’s cluster (shorting the entire order) was replaced with a new cluster (small sizing, shrinking shirts, wasteful plastic) and we will share with the overlords at MWCOG.

And the 2014 Boat to Work was indeed fun times, when I found myself in thigh-deep water under the West Glebe Bridge on FMR Trail. Was in the pre-dawn darkness with fogged-up glasses and couldn’t make out that the smooth gray surface in front of me was not concrete but dirty water being held back by the retaining wall.

It was our pleasure. We’ve been doing it since 2018 and wish the rest of the region would get on board. Had 200 ppl at our two stops today. Thanks to everyone who cam out.

Here’s a shot of the Gravelly Point stop.

Yep, that’d be my guess. They had it up on the other side, too, over by the Pentagon.

Anyone see any closures on the 110 Trail? We got this post on Twitter but have been able to lay eyes on it.

“It looks like some underground cable installation might be about to happen along the 110 Trail. Will trail access be affected?”

    Also checking with County sources.

I believe Arlington County is the owner of it and a ticket will hopefully get it fixed. The post part has a sensor that detects peds so they’ll not be counted.

I’ve reported it to David Patton, DES bike ped planner and counter wrangler. That tower actually counts the peds, so yes, data will be missing until it’s fixed.

Do you remember if the wires were still attached?

There are two groups that patrol the County trails, though I cannot tell you the frequency or schedules:

Arlington County Park Rangers: Their website says “The duties of a park ranger are diverse. Routine patrol of our parks by foot, mountain bike, and vehicle seek to ensure visitor compliance with all park rules and regulations. In addition, the park ranger staff is responsible for closing designated facilities at dark, checking for safety concerns/issues, providing park information to visitors, and rangers are trained to respond to medical emergencies.”

For more information on the park rangers, please contact Scott Haines at 703-228-0052.

The other is the Arlington Police Auxiliary. They “provide important services to the community including, but not limited to, bike patrol, bicycle registration, car seat safety inspections and residential and commercial premises security surveys.” according to a recent Facebook post.

This thread got me wondering if anyone has been struck WHILE riding. Again, exceedingly rare, but it does happen. However, Googled the topic and the third paragraph in this story about a lightning strike in Croatia gives me extreme pause.

Any flooding, trail or bridge wash outs after last night’s storms?
