A vaguely remember my husband sending in some broken Neuvation wheels and getting them fixed for a fraction of the new price.
Thanks dasgeh, Yeah I already sent out an email to Neuvation. They are actually really good folks on the CS side of things. The wheels have been fine for the price and I’ll keep them running for the small rim replacement cost.

Despite liberal application of 100 SPF sunscreen, I now have a bad case of “cyclist tan”
Wear that tan with Pride, I outline mine with a Sharpie!

I did a hard long run workout (5 min. threshold effort intervals), a short recovery bike ride and a hard swim workout (threshold intervals and sprints) — on Saturday. On Sunday, I did a hard long bike workout (long threshold effort intervals, 12 min. each) trying to beat the t-storms (which never came) and then a threshold effort brick run afterward. (My pace/speed wasn’t quite as fast as usual, but I chalk that up to the mid-90s temperatures. I was still pushing fairly hard during the speed workouts.) I deserve an easy day today. Maybe just an easy 15-min. swim and 10-15 min. lazing along on CaBi (just to get my daily points for the National Bike Challenge).
Holy Crap Potomac, you’re a machine…next weekend I’m hitching my creaking bike to your seat post and letting you drag me to Potomac….. seriously, inspiring!
DickieParticipantWell done, I’ve been meaning to do the round trip for some time but always get distracted by other routes. How were the dogs?
DickieParticipantWelcome to the forum Sean, glad to have you on board. You’ll find a really good group of folks here on the forum covering a large range of cycling knowledge. Hopefully we’ll see you on the road or at one of the happy hours!
DickieParticipantI should have taken your advice elcee and walked the bloody thing!
DickieParticipantThanks to Kathy for such a great event, and such a pleasure meeting the rest of you. Wish I hadn’t attacked the Walter Reed hill with beer courage, those sliders nearly made a second appearance!
July 10, 2012 at 12:30 pm in reply to: Why is the wind always blowing the wrong way on the MVT? #945260DickieParticipantI posted this a while back, but it is a pretty awesome site for current wind patterns:
But as my old cycling buddy always said “welcome to the cycling law of wind shift”.
DickieParticipantUghh, and on top of that you had to take a course… I hope it was a wine tasting course, or a meditation course, or a sleep course! Hang in there, maybe you got all the demons out on the first day… hope the next few weeks are better – Cheers!
DickieParticipantI should be able to make it this time, But I will be huffing it the 20 miles straight from work on my road bike in full kit (clown suit)… should make for a fun entrance for the locals (I’m reminded of a scene from “The Flying Scotsman”). Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Bummed, been looking forward to meeting all of you….. next time I guess!
DickieParticipantI’ve been working hard on getting the balance right this year and still struggle. I agree with many of the posts here, you should start by tracking your nutrition. I started using FitDay in January to log everything I put in my body and it was very illuminating. Getting the balance between protean/fat/carbs is not as easy at it may seem and it doesn’t take much to tip the scale the wrong way. I also pay attention to when I eat. As soon as I am finished riding I try to eat some form of carb and protean, generally in the form of a fruit smoothie or low fat chocolate milk. Once I am showered and cleaned up I will concentrate on a real and more balanced meal. The other thing to remember is as you become more active you metabolism kicks into high gear and stays active far after you have finished working out. I found this out when my weight loss continued past my goal and I suddenly found myself needing to go in reverse and pack on a few pounds.. the teeter tottering is not healthy. Short of shoveling pizza in my face I have to constantly find ways to eat enough to satisfy the cravings and yet put the right food in my body that helps my riding… throw in a heart condition and it becomes a real challenge but it can be done. Track your for, if only for a few weeks, it should give you a good stating place.
I stopped riding behind the Italian store, it was just killing me!

But on the plus side, I will have the wind at my back en route home.
You just jinxed yourself and me for that matter, expect “the cyclist law of wind shift” to take effect right about 4:00pm. Must admit it seems to have been a windier season then normal so far!
DickieParticipantWelcome Amy, as a newer member myself I can confirm without a doubt that this is a forum filled with lots of great info from lots of great people. it has made me feel like part of a community and I haven’t met a member yet.
