Please come join us for a happy hour at the Capital City Brewing Company in Shirlington on Thursday, July 12, starting around 5:30 p.m. Spouses and other family members, friends, new and potential cyclists and bike commuters, and lurkers on the forum are all welcome. Beers are $2 all evening. Many appetizers will be provided and additional ones are available for $5 until 7 p.m. We may hold this indoors this time, depending on weather, so if you don’t see us outside, please just ask the host or hostess to guide you to the biking group.

Cap City Brewing Co., located at 4011 Campbell Ave., Arlington, VA, phone 703-578-3888, is very easily accessible by bike trail (see google maps biking directions) or by car or bus. Ample free close-by car parking is available in various garages in Shirlington Village after 5 p.m. In addition, Shirlington Transit Station, a nearby bus hub, is only about a quarter block from the restaurant, and anyone getting off the bus with you will be able to easily point you in the right direction. If further directions are needed, please contact me by private message or on the forum and I would be glad to help.

Those who can stay later (after 8 p.m.) are invited to join us in watching Stage 11 of the Tour de France, described by Jean-Francois Pescheux on the TDF website as follows: “One of the shortest stages in the 99th edition. But riders beware, it is a tough one! The course is simple: after the first thirteen kilometres from Albertville, the peloton will be hard pressed to find a single inch of flat terrain! The cyclists will tackle La Madeleine, La Croix de Fer and Le Mollard, one after the other before the final climb up La Toussuire. Let me tell you, the final podium will start to take shape on the finish line here! Those who falter in this stage will get no second chances. The winner will not be known yet, but the losers certainly will.”

It’s helpful to know if you plan to come, but not absolutely necessary. Hope you can join us!

Thank you Kathy for organizing such a nice event! It was really nice to see some of the folks we met in Roslyn at the last HH we went to and meet a few other folks. I think most if not all of the Killer Bees were there right?

On the way home along 4MR Renuka and I had a nice dessert of gnats, but the beer and appetizers were perfect for a summer evening.

Thanks to Kathy for such a great event, and such a pleasure meeting the rest of you. Wish I hadn’t attacked the Walter Reed hill with beer courage, those sliders nearly made a second appearance!

“He has to dig deep on the climb, looking for those extra sliders in his beer keg of courage!” (With apologies to Phil Liggett.)

Had a great time. Thanks, Kathy. And the ride home was perfect, so good call on the weather, too.

Those sliders looked awesome! I almost ordered some. Now I’m glad I didn’t because of the visual you just put in my head.

Meeting everyone was pretty cool. The Rhinestone Cowgirl even spoke to me, which was awesome (most women run).

Many thanks for all the nice thanks! If Shirlington/Cap City seems like a good location, we can try to do one there again sometime.

In the meantime, any and all who might be interested in setting up similar get-togethers (or rides) in other parts of the area should always feel free to do so. There’s nothing “official” about these. It’s good to spread them around so people near different locations can come. We can also have pop-up parties – smaller get togethers on short notice. Just put up a post! I might do that for a spur of the moment Cap City event again if people would be interested in that.

Did I remember to say thank you? If not, consider yourself thanked, if I did, consider it your just rewards.

Honestly, no thanks are needed. You all made the party! Let’s do it again sometime.
