ParticipantPlease come join us for a happy hour at the Capital City Brewing Company in Shirlington on Thursday, July 12, starting around 5:30 p.m. Spouses and other family members, friends, new and potential cyclists and bike commuters, and lurkers on the forum are all welcome. Beers are $2 all evening. Many appetizers will be provided and additional ones are available for $5 until 7 p.m. We may hold this indoors this time, depending on weather, so if you don’t see us outside, please just ask the host or hostess to guide you to the biking group.
Cap City Brewing Co., located at 4011 Campbell Ave., Arlington, VA, phone 703-578-3888, is very easily accessible by bike trail (see google maps biking directions) or by car or bus. Ample free close-by car parking is available in various garages in Shirlington Village after 5 p.m. In addition, Shirlington Transit Station, a nearby bus hub, is only about a quarter block from the restaurant, and anyone getting off the bus with you will be able to easily point you in the right direction. If further directions are needed, please contact me by private message or on the forum and I would be glad to help.
Those who can stay later (after 8 p.m.) are invited to join us in watching Stage 11 of the Tour de France, described by Jean-Francois Pescheux on the TDF website as follows: “One of the shortest stages in the 99th edition. But riders beware, it is a tough one! The course is simple: after the first thirteen kilometres from Albertville, the peloton will be hard pressed to find a single inch of flat terrain! The cyclists will tackle La Madeleine, La Croix de Fer and Le Mollard, one after the other before the final climb up La Toussuire. Let me tell you, the final podium will start to take shape on the finish line here! Those who falter in this stage will get no second chances. The winner will not be known yet, but the losers certainly will.”
It’s helpful to know if you plan to come, but not absolutely necessary. Hope you can join us!

ParticipantI may do the Rev Cycles hill ride then head down there. I’m a glutton for punishment. And beer.

ParticipantDave,
Isn’t the hill ride on the third Thursday of each month? By popular demand, the happy hour would be on the 12th. Hope you can join us!

They said that burgers and beer would be the third Thursday but I think the rides are every week.

I might try and join up if you do this. The Rev Cycles ride is 6pm and not too long – a 7:30pm Happy Hour arrival is reasonable I think. The $2 brews are all night anyway.

ParticipantI’ve never done the Rev Cycles hill ride but this is sounding like a plan.

The Thursday ride is new – last week was the first one. They’d done a weekday ride before but this was the first of this incarnation. Fun and challenging route through north Arlington.

ParticipantAnyone heading here from downtown DC and want to make sure I don’t get lost on the MVT? I’ll be leaving from L’Enfant Plaza.

I could ride with you from Jefferson Mem to 4MR, but I’m probably not going to the happy hour.

I can verify visa status if needed, we need someone from CDC for the immunizations.
