I’m flexible on location… anywhere between Rosslyn, Shirlington, Mosaic District and Vienna works well for me…that said, whatever is best for everyone else is fine with me.
DickieParticipantWishing you all the best on your new adventure Bob. I wish I had the time to see you before your departure, but being in the middle of my own move has me pretty swamped. Check in on the forum from time to time and let us know how you are adjusting. You’ll be missed BobCo, you’re a real gentleman with great cycling spirit, Our loss is Seattle’s gain. God speed!

Thank you to the guy who asked me if I had everything I needed (!) when I had my bike upside down on the side of the path in Bon Air Park.
OH NO, that must have been just after I saw you… I swear I don’t come out once a year to ruin everyone’s morning!
DickieParticipantJust seeing this and not sure if you got it sorted… Our solo Burley (which the wonderful forum folks chipped in on as our going away gift) currently gets used mostly on weekends…. you’re welcome to borrow it in a jam, especially during the week until you find a replacement. We’re here until late September then off to Raleigh!
DickieParticipantI’m going to try my best to be there…bummer that vvill is leaving us, won’t be the same without him.

I’m old enough to remember (six months ago) when you were whinging about your U.K. passport.
6 months is a lifetime in this new world!

Sooooooooooo we allow British Immigrants to holiday celebrations of George Washington?!?!?!?!?!
You really want to go down that road? I’m pretty sure you’d pay a hefty amount for my UK passport at this point.
DickieParticipantThanks John for the nudge, got your email today. Komorebi – writing you right now! Cheers.
DickieParticipantA very good friend of mine was taken down by an “jackhole” type taking that corner too fast and too tight in the rain. Said “jackhole” went down hard heading west and took out my buddy heading east. Jackhole walked about with bruised ego, my buddy ended up in a cast with a shattered elbow. I hate that corner and I take it everyday.

Was admonished by a photophobe for the brightness of my Dynamo-powered headlight just before 6:00pm today at Brandywine Castle on the W&OD. Granted it was cloudy, but my light did not noticeably illuminate the trail at the Sycamore Street underpass. This specimen either: (a) has a second set of eyeballs instead of testicles because the brightest part of my light shines at seat level, or (b) has developed excessive sensitivity to light by never having ridden into the morning sun his entire life.
Was trying to see if I’m the “specimen” missing “testicles” as I remember being blinded last week on my commute home but can’t remember the details or day. I was at the Castle on the 28th just before 5:00 not 6:00, and it doesn’t appear you posted that day’s ride (checked flyby’s) so I can’t be sure. Doubtful I would have complained about such a weak light, especially with a storm approaching like it was that day… but I’ve been known to complain before when blinded by a poorly aimed retina burning strobe light (obviously your’s doesn’t classify)… If it was me, apologies for being such a wimp.

I was just looing at Google Maps. Does “cross at Stenwood School over to Cottage” mean that you cross Gallows at the Stenwood School and then take the path paralleling the sidewalk on the east side of Gallows to Cottage?
In the evenings heading North I take the pedestrian cross walk across 66 (west side) and then cross at the school… even though there isn’t a light you can get a break to cross pretty frequently and there is a good amount of space to stop in the middle if need be. I then travel in the road and either duck down Cottage or stay in the bike lane until Iliff. In the mornings (heading South) I always exit the WOD at Sandburg and take it to Cottage. Even though the light is lengthy there I don’t mind the breather. I then cross and take the road for a few hundred feet and get back on the pedestrian bridge to cross 66…. I then tootle through the metro.
DickieParticipantI used to travel on Gallows everyday including weekends between Mosaic and the WOD Southbound in the AM and Northbound in the PM. I have seen speed traps many times in the church parking lot but they don’t seem to discourage the speeds. Because of the inconsistent bike lanes I now wander through the metro, cross at Stenwood School over to Cottage and then take Sandburg St. to the WOD, this is especially helpful in reverse heading Southbound in the AM. I just feel safer away from Gallows…. plus less flats (the debris in the bike lane is brutal).
