GuestI found the forum and registered about a week ago, and have been lurking/reading. That feels kind of rude, though, like eavesdropping on strangers or listening behind doors, so I thought I’d introduce myself.
Hi, I’m Amy, nice to “meet” everyone.

Are we pulling on the rope, or trying to push it?
And welcome Amy.

As every engineer learned in the first semester of structural analysis (aka statics), you can’t push a rope!
As a bureaucrat, I regularly find opportunities to try (typically with known results).

Sure you can, you just have to dip it in water and freeze it first.

Thanks! I work until 6pm waayy out in MD though, so the chances of me making it to a happy hour in Fairfax are approximately zero.

ParticipantWe can take rejection!
There is a pretty good chance the next one will be in Shirlington and we have held them in Rosslyn as well. Maybe we can provide you more notice for one of those.

Or jam it through a pipe – again sticking with the bureaucracy analogy.

Since most of us work near the city and then scatter in all directions in the evening, why don’t we have a happy hour in a central location say, say downtown, G-town, or Crystal city, a little earlier say 4-6, and then let people scatter. Friday coffee club works pretty well with this model (I’ve met people from all over at Swings on Fridays). Just Sayin’

I’m seeing a scholarly paper. Cool! Something like “Achieving the unachievable, ways to push a rope”

May I suggest Foggy Bottom? Some place like Tonic, which would make it easy to get to Memorial, TR or Key Bridge afterwards (or 395, just a little farther).
