The island near RFK? Benning rd bridge in the background?
Rode by there with dcv a couple weeks ago and wondered what was across that wooden bridge. We rode a loop of the RFK GP Course instead of being adventurous.

ParticipantI liked that only because it was Mikey’s and this challenge was all his great idea.
That said street signs are weak, and I will not ‘like’ them again. /rant

ParticipantHans, do you pull daily precipitation totals? A chart for number of riders vs. daily precipitation would be one I would like to see.

This is really disappointing – I thought that area was heading in the right direction in terms of density and walking/biking rather than just figuring out ways to move more cars, faster. That Metro station is already in a terrible spot where it’s not much fun to get to using ANY means of transportation (At least it wasn’t last time I was there, which was 5-7 years ago).
I think they still are moving in the right direction. But getting there requires massive construction which is causing some headaches, especially for pedestrians as evidenced by the photo.

And by “wrong” you mean “at 5:00 a.m.” Yeah, I can’t imagine why you didn’t see more of us.
But…. how much of your evening commute is in the daylight?
(this excuse works for about 5 months of the year.)

If we just do the gate to gate segment then we’ll get everyone. I usually only do the commute extension via 14th street bridgeBasin Dr. salmonsidewalk.
except for the cheaters who cut through the parking lot at the point. why do you hate cheaters.

I thought last year the HP laps were based off:
[h=1]The East Potomac Park Loop[/h]Which would work fine by me (as I prefer not to salmon E Bason or ride sidewalks), but it would not give credit for people extending their commute by entering the tennis court side and departing the Potomac side. Or people who rent a CaBi and starting from the parking lot.
Edit. It would in fact not give credit for anyone entering and exiting the Anacostia side even though they did a full lap, no?

ParticipantI must be doing it wrong. I saw no sun, very few bikes, and in no way could I have not worn full tights.

This sounds like a bug. It is based on segments, but I thought we were correctly fetching every segment (even if repeated). It’s possibly a limitation in the new API, but if you could PM me with an activity ID, I can dig deeper.
There is only one segment that should matter. “Hains Point Gate to Gate”.

ParticipantCX/Mountain bikes Crank Brothers Candy 1. Road bikes SPD-SL.
Not a speedplay fan though. The cost and maintenance is a pain, plus I have seen more people pull out of Speedplays mid sprint than all other pedal types combined. This reminds me, I have to re-grease my wife’s Zero’s here soon.

But then you have to ride in Orlando…yikes!
Orlando gets a bad rap for some reason. The riding there is fine. Subby, check out the W Orange Trail, and the Windermere roadies routes.

It just so happens that a roundtrip to the grocery store from my apartment is basically 1 mile. I’m getting my mile minimum in by doing this ride pretty much every day for the purpose of getting those groceries that we always seem to forget. Although the ride serves a functional purpose, I still feel a little sleazy and counteract this feeling by extending my ride into a pointless 2 mile loop around Sligo Creek Trail. This makes me feel like i’m not completely cheating the system 😎
It’s not cheating, its the rules. Also, its not sleazy, its smart.

Matt, the Anacostia Trail in DC doesn’t connect to the Anacostia Trail in MD yet although it will eventually. Routing across New York Ave. seems to be a problem. I won’t suggest New York Ave (Route 50) be included in this side bet challenge. Limited access highway, probably illegal to bicycle there. I’d do it for sure though if I had a reason.
Makes sense.
For the record, I didn’t realize that E Capital and Benning Rd had been added to the list already. Those were the two I was lobbying for. I rode The east side of the Anacostia trail and crossed on Benning on Jan 1. It was a great ride. Do rides before the side bet was announced, but during freezing saddles count?
MattAune
ParticipantWhile it wont help out team, I do second Rod’s notion that all the bridges along the Anacostia trail should count. It is a nice trail and if the Benning rd bridge gets someone out there for the first time that’s a good thing.
