ParticipantI always assume no one sees me because most of the time they don’t. Hard to see a cyclist when you’re watching TikTok on your phone.

ParticipantIt was full of trucks about two hours ago but otherwise quite lovely.

The gap between the 14th St Bridge and the 15th Street Cycletrack has been filled thanks to a recent repaving by NPS. The Cycletrack is useable but not yet complete.

ParticipantThere’s an ELF rider who I think regularly parks on 15th NW around M St. Have not seen the ELF in motion so can’t speak to the riders level of respect for others.

This is my first one! Surely, unless there’s ice, I can ride at least a mile a day, right? (mostly just getting a post in here…)
It’s all about how much effort you’re willing to put in to get a mile each day. A few years ago we were on vacation and my wife and I drove to a parking lot that had been cleared and did circles for 2 miles. The woman running the welcome center that owned the parking lot was puzzled and didn’t seem to get our explanation but she didn’t make us leave.

ParticipantIt’s too bad Motown Square isn’t still serving out of Mess Hall, you could hit them and City State in one super bike friendly stop

There was a WashPo article a couple of months ago about the best Pizza in the DMV… I have been thinking about doing a pizza/brew ride at some point in the near future. This might just jump start that for winter instead of the spring!

ParticipantAwesome! Thank you so much

ParticipantThe Zojirushi mugs are actually TOO good. The coffee never cools enough for me to drink it

To be fair the hierarchy of stops has been kind of unstable as we (emerge? kind of emerge? think we have emerged? I’m not touching that one) from he pandemic. Market Square was in the past the big one in Alexandria, last year there was no pitstop at Market Square and Carlyle was the big one. As noted, this year Market Square was back – it seemed big to me (I have never done Freedom Plaza, and have only done Rosslyn once, last year) but Carlyle may still have been busier.
I’ts not so much size/attendance. The Freedom Plaza -> Franklin Square stops have the VIPs come out and talk about how great cycling is (as they allow construction to destroy cycletracks all over the city). It’s meant to be the premier stop in DC. I can’t speak to the Alexandria ones, I’ve never ventured further from DC than Rosslyn for BTWD.

ParticipantRather than listing the pit stops in order, I would have featured the big ones (Rosslyn, Franklin Sq, etc). And I would have put in big letters that Freedom Plaza isn’t the big stop any more. Had a chat with a cyclist in the PA Ave cycletrack who had been looking for it and was confused. Luckily I passed another stop and one of the volunteers there sent me to the right place, just in time to hear DDOT Dir Lott pretend he knows what a bike is

ParticipantThat year, I rode out from DC to the pitstop by the Intersection of Doom before coming back in to “my” pitstop at Freedom Plaza, where they were handing out t-shirts from inside a Circulator bus to keep things dry-ish.
I also object to the relentless passage of time, someone should do something about that

ParticipantToday is 9 years since Boat to Work Day. That was fun.

I will confirm attendance closer to the date but if anyone is looking for bike directions, I’m happy to help. It’s very bike-accessible but you need to know a couple of things to avoid, like Franklin St
I am officially in.

Participant1st to R is a totally reasonable route, I just don’t like it. I usually do R if I’m westbound though.

ParticipantWell, shoot, we have to retroactively celebrate the 10th FSLNHPP then. I should have opted for the stronger shot
