FSLNHPP 2023 – Freezing Saddles Last Night Hains Point Party. March 19

As is our tradition (inspired in 2014 by jrenaut), we will meet at Hains Point to ride around in circles and tack on our last miles for this not-so-freezing, Freezing Saddles season.

Many have said that the FSLNHPP is their favorite event of Freezing Saddles. If you have not participated in the past, you should come and find out for yourself.

There is no official starting time. Come down to Hains Point and join your fellow FSers riding around in circles, enjoying camaraderie, congratulating each other for getting through another “winter.”

There is an official ending time, though. At 11:40 or so we will ride one final lap around the loop, ending a few minutes before midnight. We’ll then stop our devices and share a toast to both celebrate the end of FS and to curse another winter that is now behind us.

Feel free to do any of the following:

• Organize a team costume
• Bring snacks or drinks to share
• Bring music to play
• Decorate your car or bike with balloons, streamers or other celebratory festoonments
• Any other festive idea you may have

I’ll be coming back from my daughter’s soccer tournament in Richmond this Sunday but hope to make it out

The current temperature forecast for midnight 3/19-3/20 is 33°F, so not quite freezing. But it will still be winter for another 17 hours and 24 minutes and the overnight low is forecast to be 27°F and at freezing by 1 am.

Remember, when it’s super windy on Hains Point, you get the tailwind one way so it evens out

On each lap my legs remember the brutal and are too tired to appreciate the tailwind.

The next-to-last time I was out there, yes, brutal on the Potomac side!

Technically, it depends on what the wind direction is. Based upon the layout of the loop, it wouldn’t be that hard to have very little tailwind and the rest being a head or crosswind.

Good ride, all! I had hoped to possibly catch Team 7 for 2nd place but it was not to be.

Next year will be the 10th FSLNHPP. We should do something cool, like ride our bikes in circles really late at night in the cold.
