Do you think they would mind if I brought in a box of matzoh, maybe some other things? – it will still be Passover, and I don’t know if there will be anything I can eat.

It appears I will not be able to partake of any alcoholic beverages available there either, but I don’t expect a brewery will want me bringing in cider or mead.

Sorry for not catching this sooner.

I had the same question. But from their website:

We’ve partnered with a rotating lineup of food Vendors to offer delicious food on-site. Hours vary and you are also welcome to order from Mess Hall (1 block away) or bring your own food to enjoy.

So no, it’s not an issue.

As far as beverages, I intend to stick to the (nonalcoholic) ginger beer (which shouldn’t have anything in it that is not kosher for Passover, but may well not be certified as kosher for Passover). But of course, your level of observance may be different from mine.

FROM VA: lowest stress would be 14th St Bridge to 15th St cycletrack north. Take a right on Q. Q has two funny bits that are hard if you aren’t familiar. First is at 11th. You want to cross 11th and take the little slip lane, left on Rhode Island, then right on Q again

Then Q dead ends into Florida. I generally take the south sidewalk on Florida and cross North Cap at the light. Q continues just north of the Florida/North Cap intersection (so you need to cross Florida AND North Cap).

Continue on Q a few blocks until it dead ends. Ride up onto the little plaza and take a left on the MBT trail. Just past the RIA Metro, City State is on your left. You’ll see signs as well as the bike rack on the left side of the trail. Take the stairs up and go right.

The bike rack is likely to be full very quickly, there’s more parking upstairs. I suspect there will be a mass of bikes locked together as there’s no way the bike parking will accommodate all attendees.

One amendment to this route. Don’t go all the way to Florida on Q. When you hit 1st St NW, turn left and go one block to R. Turn right on R. It will take you directly to the MBT. No need to take sidewalks to cross Florida.

1st to R is a totally reasonable route, I just don’t like it. I usually do R if I’m westbound though.

Fair. The crossing at 1st and FL is hairy but I think it’s better than using Q all the way to the MBT.

I ride this route fairly frequently and crossing to R at 1st is far, far, far lower stress than taking any sidewalk. This used to be part of my daily commute from Dupont to Fort Lincoln, FWIW.

And I’m a rider with a high tolerance for stressful routing, so… there you go!

Update: Food catering will be by JB Humble Pies: delicious savory and sweet pies. Menu can be seen at this link. Of course, those celebrating Passover are welcome to bring their own food. And I’ll bring a box or two of matzah to share.

    Exciting updates to happy hour

We have now managed to negotiate some upgrades to the final happy hour on Tuesday, April 11 at 6:30 at City-State Brewing, 705 Edgewood St NE, Washington, DC 20017. The following are the updated details. Please remember to RSVP so we have an idea of how many to expect.

    * No cover charge >> recommended $15+ drink spend: Folks will pay as they go for food and drink. However, since there is no cover charge/rental fee for this, we ask those who can afford it to please spend at least $15 on drinks / merchandise / gift cards from City/State (not counting any food purchases which go directly to their food truck) and to please tip GENEROUSLY. They are providing extra staffing for us as well as closing to the general public to accommodate our event needs without charging us a rental fee so we need to ensure they don’t lose money on us. Thanks!

    * PLEASE BRING ALONG LOTS OF friends and family (kids ok with adults) !!! Even though it’s technically a “private party” the more the merrier (and the more likely it is they will sell enough beer etc to justify having waived a space rental fee for us.) Anyone you know who wants to come out on a Tuesday night with a bunch of rowdy cyclists is very welcome to join us, even if they’ve never participated in Freezing Saddles. Anyone FS-curious will have a great time getting to know us!!!

    * Seating: We will have the *whole place*, which includes both indoor and outdoor seating, to ourselves.

    * Awards at 7pm: We’ll keep it lively with a little award ceremony to celebrate!!

    * Bike parking: will be available on racks in front of the loading dock, and along the fence on the patio.

    * Food: Catering will be by JB Humble Pies: delicious savory and sweet pies. Of course, those celebrating Passover are welcome to bring their own food. Cvcalhoun will bring a box or two of matzah to share.

    * Drinks: What City-State has is primarily beer. However, there are non-beer alternative beverages available — alcoholic (ice tea + lemonade mixed drink) and nonalcoholic (lemonade) — which may work for those celebrating Passover. Please reach out to Rumi (dm rumipumi on forum) if none of these options will work for you.

That is great news. Having the place to ourselves is so much nicer. I will do my part and make sure I drink enough beer. Beer good!

The weather is also looking to be quite nice, so that should help get folks out.

Even though we don’t need to save seats anymore, I will still plan on getting there early.
