ParticipantWhen I needed parts for my Ortlieb I never found them at a bike shop, but never looked very hard, as I needed several parts (I had really done a number on my pannier) so I just asked Ortlieb to send them.
It was an involved repair, including weaving, so I took the pannier and the parts to Old Town Luggage. They did a great job.

ParticipantI finally rode it yesterday, entire length from Gallows Rd to the stub end south of I66 at rte 50.
- yeah, being between the highway and sound wall is not great. Noise and emissions. OTOH if the alternative is taking a lane on a stroad, maybe not that bad by comparison, because then you’re right behind the tailpipe.
- which btw, means its most useful to transportation cyclists/commuters. though yesterday the other riders i saw appeared to be fast recreational riders. There was even a walker. I doubt the trail gets runners, dog walkers, or casual recreational riders
- Yes, some parts are better than others, the parts more elevated from the highway better than those at the same level
- Some of the crossings of exits were clever and well designed, with good signage. But yes, the crossing at Blake sucked. Is there a plan to change?
- I like the PBL near the metro station
- Side benefit – improvement to a short section on Gallows.
- when that stub end connects west, the utility of this will increase further.
- no mattresses on the trail, and no snow or ice. There was a fender from the crash that had just shut down WB I66. LE told me to skedaddle as it was a crime scene. So I did.
Bottom line- it’s fair to dislike the compromises, and the overall environment that produced them. It’s still a net improvement, I think maybe a significant one (I think you have to have done lots of riding on bad stroads trying to get places out there to appreciate it). I heard at least one advocate suggest that this is so bad, it would actually deter some folks from further activism. I dunno.

ParticipantI mean the pizza dough question COULD have been on topic for the pizzaneuring thread, perhaps the poster is lost?

ParticipantIf you can find a pizza place that serve a pizza made with vegan cheese on a gluten free crust you probably deserve a prize just for that. 😉

ParticipantThe powers that be have determined that a calzone counts, if consumed at a pizza place.
They have also determined that any pizza consumed in the Republic of Italy (I’d say southern Italy, but I don’t want to quibble about Italian geography, really) counts toward tie breaking.

ParticipantThe question has come up, does a calzone count? While it’s my privilege to set arbitrary rules, I’d like to approach thulis rationally and fairly.
Con – a calzone is not actually pizza. It’s a different food
Pro – calzones are rarely if ever sold outside pizza shops.
I’m leaning towards counting calzones, if purchased and consumed at a pizza shop. But I encourage debate on this.

ParticipantCurrently it appears that old private messages are not accessible – are they archived somewhere? Old pictures?

ParticipantI have changed plans once again, thanks to Paxlovid.

Participantquick rule revision/clarification.
I have initially envisioned this as being based on posting a picture to the forum, NOT hashtag based contest, in the spirit of the beerneuring prize. However I have heard some folks have had trouble posting pictures to the forum, and I see some pizza rides have already used hashtags (monitored thanks to our great coding team) without posting pictures. So, henceforward, I think this will need to be based on the #pizza hashtag. I think only Casey will need to edit his strava ride title accordingly. Or I could just add plus one to Casey’s total.
I say this with regret, as the proliferation of hashtags is somewhat dizzying.

ParticipantWe meet in person at Charles Houston Rec Center, 2nd monday of every month at 7PM. There is also a zoom option, private message me here for the link.
Anyone may attend. Anyone may request to be added to the Alexandria citizens google group. People who participate and request may be added to the members group. $25 dues makes you a voting member. There are plenty of volunteer opportunties, whether helping with with rides/walks, helping with bike rodeos (teaching kids safety and tricks), or advocacy.

ParticipantI will NOT attend, due to COVID-19 (I’m feeling better, thanks Paxlovid, but still contagious) Hope everyone has a good time, looking forward to hearing all about it.

ParticipantThere should be a friends learderboard, right? https://freezingsaddles.org/people/friends appears to be blank. Now there would be no miles for me (I have not ridden yet this year, because clavicle) but I assume other friends have ridden already?

Have people been pointing out how JBG Smiths’ renderings obliterate the bike lanes on Potomac Ave? They’ve rendered a double-wide parking lane. Unforgivable!
Potomac Avenue was always going to be rebuilt with development – the attorney for the developer said in the past “it depends on the nature of the development” (back when they were looking for approvals for the VTech campus” For the Arena project, we don’t have a traffic study yet, AFAIK, let alone a tranportation plan. Rest assured some folks with concerns for bikes are formulating “asks”

A feature can be called something and be generally regarded as having that name, even if it’s not “official.” The Iwo Jima Memorial being an example: it’s commonly called that even though that is not its official designation. And everyone knows what is meant when it is referred to that way.
Personally I’d like to contemplate that while walking down 6th Avenue in Manhattan. Or to be closer to home, the 14th Street Bridge. I may say something about that on Twitter.
Personally I’d like to see a sign there that says “We should all go for a bike ride”, not sure what the rules about that are. Tools would be great too.

Um, what did you do to your clavicle????
So you shouldn’t ride too fast on wet pavement right? Maybe especially not if your tires aren’t exactly new, right?
Went down on my left side. Nasty scrapes on knee and elbow, sharp pain in shoulder. Bike was rideable, kind of, rode it home.
Orthopedist says broken clavicle, not displaced, no surgery needed. Gave me a sling, said “stay off the bike for 6 weeks” I need to check the portal to see when Im supposed to start arm exercises. Pain comes and goes, depending on time of day and arm position, gradually getting less.
But it’s now been over 2 weeks of full time telework instead of 2 to 3 days a week bike commuting – and I am exploring the world of fitness center stationary bikes (ewww) and long walks.
I had already planned on being a friend of BAFS instead of participating. Mostly to let new people have the slots, Ive done BAFS every year since 2015. But I WAS hoping to do a lot of group rides and focus (as I do each year) on at least one pointless prize. Still looking forward to HH, and then to getting back on the bike.
