Only the half that you are single speeding it! :)

This is why I have an extra battery. ;) (But usually just ride my single speed anyway… *shrug*)

LOL. Good to know. I usually don’t let it get that low that the idiot light turns red…but I have forgotten to swap it out regularly for the spare. And I showed up once at a group ride (having driven there) with no battery at all. Luckily a friend rode on the big ring all day so I could have his front derailleur battery. A true friend BTW!

When my SRAM AXS 1x setup croaks in the middle of a ride, does that count as single-speed? :D

It was back up around 10:30 and took a couple of hours to clear the backlog. Morning commute is showing up now.

This pointless prize is still not on the leadership, as of Day 25. It shows up only under the hashtag.

Prefer not to be referred to as an “a-hole,” in any capacity. You might want to rethink your outreach strategy. It’s very alienating. Seriously.

Looks so much better than the W Glebe temporary pedestrian/bike bridge! I didn’t look closely when I rode by today, is the decking a composite or wood?

A slightly grumpy and contrarian comment. Boardwalks (especially those next to bodies of water) can be slipperier than frozen whale snot in the winter when frost forms. By their very nature they will be the first to freeze over. IMHO, we need fewer boardwalks on bike paths.

Case in point, on the CCT this morning, the concrete bridge at Dalecarlia was fine, but the boardwalk was frosty. BTW, why pay for a concrete deck bridge, and then “feed” it with an el-cheapo boardwalk?? A cheap and cheerful solution that has other downsides, including high long-term maintenance costs and short life cycles.

We could meet up and hit the loop on a weeknight as a “team” event for anyone who wants to join. I’m usually done at the office at 5:30 and could meet six-ish.

Randomduck will probably drop me like a hot rock on the first climb though. :)

    Welcome to the Team.

“Randomduck,” I see you’re sponsoring the Ross Hill loop Pointless Prize. I may have to hit that after work. I ride from home in Arlington to Bethesda–and often do Beach Drive southbound. It’s nice and peaceful in the dark. :)

My commute is about 24 miles round trip by the most direct route (Military Rd/Chain Bridge/Capital Crescent). I usually extend that in the evenings, unless the weather’s miserable. 50-plus mile rides on the weekends when I can swing it.

I appreciate the volunteer aspect of this game, but this is waaay non-centralized for being on a work night. Again.

Yeah, Bethesda to Falls Church (via bike–or any other means for that matter) is a hard lift on a work night.

Pump up sprayers like you would use for bug/weed spray in your yard work well when filled with warm water.

Yeah, second that. A 2-gal. sprayer works great. Fill up with warm or hot tap water to wash the bike outside even when it’s below freezing. A little dish-washing liquid and elbow grease for the first pass. Then refill with clean water and rinse.

Construction fencing is gone. I suspect it had something to do with “Wreaths Across America,” to keep people from parking willy-nilly along 110.

Anyone see any closures on the 110 Trail? We got this post on Twitter but have been able to lay eyes on it.

    Also checking with County sources.

Nope, open this morning. But a plethora of orange construction fencing in the area.

Is this a county trail, btw? If so, it could do with a repaving, and the center stripe is very faint.

Pedestrians and runners won’t/don’t care about directional arrows, nor should they. All buses will be banned, including school buses under the proposal that’s being implemented.

All this got started because of the two pedestrian fatalities, and the US Attorney’s inexplicable handling of the case. A double fatality hit-and-run, and no charges. So we have “magical paint” as a solution to an abject failure of effective law enforcement.

This is what they should have done (Potomac Ave in Arlington). A lane for pedestrians with tire stops and flex-posts, one-way cycle lane for slower cyclists, one-way shared lane for faster cyclists and motorists.

The design they’re going to implement is overwrought and creates all sorts of conflicts.
