Nice. And at 270′ (!) there should be no settlement, meaning the bridge surface should remain level for the life of the bridge. And relatively smooth, if the board surface is renewed periodically.

While it’s not “officially” open, the new Talbot Ave Bridge over the future Purple Line and CSX tracks is bikeable. Barriers are easily avoided. The streets on the west side are completely open to provide access to homes.

Howdy, Goldenspikers. Please post any late entries ASAP.

I’m going to tabulate results in the next day or two. A nice rainy day activity, and certainly more fun than doing taxes.

See you all at the Closing Ceremonies on April 10, when the lucky winner will be revealed. I’ll also announce some truly useless statistics.

It may be time to retire the “bollard busters” trope. It’s getting a little out of hand. laughing

My advice is “don’t arrive hungry.” The on-site food offerings were pretty meager last year.

April 10 and 11 has been bandied about on the Strava group, but there’s nothing definite yet.

Trolley Museum ride is still on, and the forecast looks great for Saturday. Partly cloudy, mid-60s, no wind…

I hope the Rock’n’Roll Marathon street closures won’t be an issue in the morning, but I figure people are riding, so it won’t be a problem.

I’d like to get a rough headcount, so either post here or on the Strava group if you’re interested.

Even relatively tiny Arlington County (the 26 square miles the politicos harp on constantly) has 367 miles of county-maintained streets. (VDOT controls Glebe Road, Arlington Blvd., Langston and so forth for additional miles.) I’m missing quite a bit of Arlington–and going down every dead-end street does put the whammy on the average times.

Got my March 1 data uploaded, but it required math. 🙂 Took the “this year” data and subtracted off March.

This is pretty illusory. As a non-subscriber it did not mine all my Strava data going back to 2019. While I have made more of an effort to explore new routes since Jan 1, not all those 532 miles are “new” to me, but those are the rules…

    Hi Folks,

I have finalized the routes for the National Capital Trolley Museum Ride. Let’s plan on meeting at Union Station in DC at 10:30. Meeting point is the end of the MBT, at the once-and-future bike parking shed. It’s an 18-mile ride to the museum. Mostly trails and low-traffic roads, and Sligo Creek Parkway.

The museum visit should take about two hours to see everything and take a couple of trolley rides. Admission is $12, and they prefer credit cards. Plan on bringing a lock to secure your bike.

The return ride is back to Peirce Mill in Rock Creek Park. There is a lunch stop at the shopping center at Layhill Rd., with many food options. After that we’ll be on the Matthew Henson Trail for a bit, then some quiet streets and Beach Drive.

Hope to see you there. Questions/concerns: email dcmcrider@gmail.com

    Thanks!

Thanks to Rachel and Peter for joining me on the #goldenspike ride from the Ashburn metro station. Yes, rural riding is Metro-accessible!

The ride is ON for tomorrow. See you there, at the South pavilion of Ashburn metro station.

Silver Line trains run on 18-minute headways on Sundays. The trip planner says the 9:00 am train from Ballston arrives at Ashburn at 9:57.
