Pulled this out of my tire when I got to work. No diamond in it, unfortunately.

I was on part of the WOD west of EFC tonight and it is still in pretty hideous condition. Be careful tomorrow morning!

Rode in with Subby this morning. Awesome to meet you, sir! Sorry I wasn’t more sociable. Early morning is my quiet time.

Great to meet you and no worries. Morning commute is sacrosanct, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to introduce myself. Thanks for letting me tag along. I only almost-wiped-out once! :)

    Quick trip report.

Tri360 is AWESOME. Super nice people. Very accommodating with all of my dumbass questions. Totally convenient to my house (less than 3 miles) and on the way to work. They replaced my front and rear brakes and trued my front wheel and I was out of there in under 30 minutes.

    Definitely my LBS.

The socks I like even better than Smartwool are those by Swiftwick. They’re more expensive, but I found they last longer and have a better temperature range for me. My feet are comfy at lower and higher temperatures. Locally they’re available at Tri360 Near the W&OD trail just down from East Falls Church Metro. Tri360 donated a bunch of pairs of Swiftwick socks for HP100 primes, which was a pretty dang cool thing to do!

Sweet! I just so happen to be heading over there later today to get my bike checked out. Will bring additional monies.

    Thanks!

I ordered some of those smartwool socks that someone (KLizotte?) was raving about. I was in serious pain yesterday with just two pairs of ordinary socks. Probably need to triple up until they get here.

I got some Nokkian studded tires on CL last month and they came with this hard rubber bulb. Neither the seller nor I were sure what it is. Anyone?

Does it attach to a tool that you can use to replace missing studs?

What do we call those who constantly complain about other people’s lights? “Mole people”? “Illumigrouches”? “Those Who Must Not Be Seen”?

Heh I ran across an illumigrouch last night. I could barely see them because they were covering their light from like 1000 feet away. Then I was thinking, wow why doesn’t that bike have a light? Bluemont junction be PITCH BLACK. Oh wait – they are covering their light. SHI I BETTER COVER MINE! WAIT HOW DO I COVER MY HELMET LIGHT WHICH I AM USING TO SEE THAT THEY ARE IN FACT COVERING THEIR LIGHT?

“You are blinding me with your light!!!!!!”

    Too late. :(

Ok I pulled the trigger on some Nokian Hakkeplitta A10s. I feel like KelOnWheels, anxiously waiting for my new winter stuff. Also, not sure I am saving any money over car commuting. :D

I hemmed and hawed this morning but whimped out in the end. I’m just not confident enough in the “all weather” stock tires on my Trek FX 7.3. They seem kinda slick to be considered all weather. First car commute of the year.

For whatever reason I decided to take the long way in from McLean this morning – trails, trails, trails, drop off south of airport, ride across 14 street bridge. I messed up my sock setup, so my feet were blocks of ice, but it didn’t matter. The view of DC just before sunrise was enough to bring me to tears. Oh wait – my ski goggles had iced over and I had to take them off, so that might have been my eyelashes freezing. Still, it was breathtaking and I got one of those runner’s high boosts right as I was passing the airport. I have never before commuted in to work that way and I might be hooked now. Man what an unbelievable view. Thank god for bike commuting.

It wasn’t horrible this morning. I got a little bit of an ice cream headache at the end of Key Bridge, but otherwise I was ok.
