The Wilson Boulevard underpass on the WOD is wet and muddy from the overflow caused by this past weekend’s rain – just a heads up in case you like to tear through there.

Maybe she wasn’t totally MIA when she set up the club, but she is, in fact, totally MIA now. Hopefully everything’s good with her, but she’s left us in a bad spot with respect to competitiveness and also with team admin stuff (non-members need to be booted and the team page set to private).

If she is just riding every day and waiting to upload her rides, then that would be completely awesome and please ignore everything I wrote.

I think their issue now is that she’s non-communicative and hasn’t ridden since Jan 1.

    That’s definitely the issue.

Shout out to the commenter who complained about cyclists riding into moving traffic without looking. I always ride into moving traffic without looking, what an astute observation.

Hey Ashby we have one random dude in our strava group that needs to be booted but otherwise I think everyone is in! And it looks like we are top 10 as of now.

Look for annoying inspirational messages from me in our strava group going forward!

Most important: Team 20 is probably the best team in the history of Freezing Saddles. We will probably win, so I have taken the liberty of ordering commemorative championship jorts and tank tops.

I ride some, commuting from McLean to DC at least once a week. Bikes are good! Can’t wait to meet everyone. Also we are going to win. Did I mention that?

Hey so if you want to cut off the Holly Leaf tightness, you can actually just cut through the spring hill rec center parking lot between Spring Hill Rd and Lewinsville.

Say you are going to McLean, you would just make this adjustment:

R Daviswood Drive (very short stretch).
    L Summerwood Drive
    L Spring Hill Road
Quick Right into Spring Hill Rec center parking lot
    L Lewinsville Road

The new points system feels like it was designed by committee.

Let me put Subby’s idea out there (again) — individual leaderboard is based solely on miles, team leaderboard is based solely on days ridden. People can determine how they want to distribute their riding based on whatever life constraints and desires they have. They can choose if they want to engage in the side bets and pointless prizes or not, and if they want to do social things or not. Personally, I’ll probably aim for a healthy balance across all of these.

In response to people who might complain about team points being tied solely to days ridden, I would say this – the hardest part of winter riding is almost always getting out the door. And I feel like getting people out the door to ride during the winter is the second most important goal of this competition (first being meeting new people and extending our car crushing empire).

How did this work out, if you don’t mind my asking?

She talked about it on Strava a little but the main issue was that, unbeknownst to me at least, Swinks Mill is closed between Old Dominion and Georgetown Pike.

Lewinsville Road is fine – there is a climb with almost no shoulder up from the beltway, but there is a generous paved path that runs to your left along that section that you can hop on. The right turn on to Swinks Mill is not too far up.

On the return I would just continue on Swinks Mill all the way down to the bottom and then take a right on Georgetown Pike. There is a good shoulder there, and you can climb up through the beltway interchange and take a right on Balls Hill Road. At the intersection of Balls Hill and Old Dominion, bear left on Old Dominion and take that across 123 and then take a right on Old Chain Bridge in the middle of McLean. Follow that to Westmoreland and take a left and then you know what to do from there :)

I like Subby’s idea he tossed out earlier this year — individual leaderboard is based solely on miles ridden (no cap), team leaderboard is based solely on days ridden (at least 1 mile). I’m indifferent to the size of teams, but I like local teams (although they’re more of a pain to set up). Alternatively, we could select captains from a volunteer pool, and have them draft players (this is cycling, drafting is important right?).

This is genius so genius I forgot I suggested it.

Raise the cap to 150, randomize teams, 10 riders per team, drop the lowest mileage rider for each team when calculating team points, otherwise keep the current points system, reject any and all of steveO’s ideas.

So far riding it both ways each day this week, I don’t find the temporary detour nearly bad enough to warrant any alternate route (specifically re: the in-traffic riding required for Subby’s route, and nasty crossing waiting at the end of Dismal’s route.)

You bomb down Arlington Ridge so fast that you aren’t in traffic, you ARE traffic.

Best way around this heading west from DC is go through the Crystal City Connector and ride up 20th Street to Arlington Ridge Road and then absolutely bomb down to behind the Giant and then pick up the trail after/before the detour.
