I’ve been sending emails to the Rock Creek Superintendent to request they clear the trail in various spots. Unfortunately, little is ever done. Please add your voice!
Crews were out clearing the brush yesterday morning, so hopefully this particular issue is resolved. I hope a rebuild of that stretch of trail is planned, since it is uncomfortably narrow for passing.

ParticipantJust to say: I didn’t intend to be negative here, just wanted to make a suggestion for how these could be more useful and maybe stimulate a bit more conversation.

Participant“The closure will be for about one week… Cyclists will be directed to Virginia Lane and Nottingham Drive to detour around the closed section of trail. This on-road detour uses the W&OD Trail access at the end of Nottingham Drive.”
You post a lot of interesting links, but only the links. They’d be more useful if you could offer a quick preview or a summary of the most useful information.

National do a Grouch a Favor Day
Certain forum members may be disappointed by their unexpectedly good Sunday. Or else we’re going to be drinking a lot of almond lattes

ParticipantDC Rainmaker has a deep dive into the new, native Strava app for the Apple Watch. It sort of made my eyes glaze over but might be of interest to Apple Watch wearers

ParticipantLooks like the rain should be finished by this afternoon! Even if not, I promise it won’t be raining in the bar, so come on out.

ParticipantI’ve managed to get out every day but have had two true sleaze days. Those hurt a lot more with the new scoring system than they used to! Serves me right

ParticipantPoor trail design has been a contributing factor in both of my (ultimately minor) crashes since I moved back to DC five years ago. The only factor? No, but we should be designing infrastructure that reduces, rather than increases, the chance that a small mistake becomes a life-changing crash.

Tried out the new pedestrian/bike bridge by the Kennedy Center. It was great, a useful connection between the waterfront path and the Roosevelt Bridge path and a safe crossing of Rock Creek Pkwy.
It seems like this is going to be a fair-weather connection rather than true transportation infrastructure. It was roped off today, and the last time there was any ice, it was also roped off. I don’t think the Kennedy Center has any real intention of maintaining it in the winter, unless necessary for one of their events.

ParticipantIt’s on my calendar. I’ll try to make it!

ParticipantOk, I’m about due for a new headlight (the Cygolites last only a few years of regular use before their batteries go bad). After reading this thread, I’ve just gone ahead and purchased a battery-powered headlight that I hope will allow me to run my light reasonably bright without causing discomfort to others. Having my light on low was a contributing factor in a thankfully minor crash on the CCT a few years back.

At around 5hrs of battery life on high, it should comfortably get me through nearly all of my nighttime rides, and because it uses removable AAs, I don’t need to worry about degradation of a difficult-to-replace internal lithium ion battery.
It doesn’t have blinky/strobing modes but I’ve pretty much stopped using those anyway.

ParticipantWe’ll be adding one team member (TBA) from the waitlist, and who knows where they’ll be from, but for now most of us are in DC (Palisades, Mt. Pleasant, Brookland). It should be pretty easy to get together for a team ride, happy hour, or coffee.

ParticipantI took a few photos — here are the flattering ones!
Sorry they’re so small. I don’t know why the forum sometimes resizes photos to tiny sizes and sometimes doesn’t.
