Normally I don’t have to go downtown on Thursdays. But: morning polka? I’m in!

Personally I simply won’t ride on a road like that (I have the privilege to build my life so I don’t have to) I realize that is not an acceptable policy answer, and there are people who rely on bikes to get around and live in places like that.
I am saddened by this death. But I am also glad my own advocacy work is in the City of Alexandria, where problems are at least more tractable.
Yes, Google Maps suggests there are very few good streets for cycling in that area of Frederick — and depending on the cyclist’s route, perhaps no viable alternatives at all. The accident was at 7am, so it was somewhat dark. My guess is that it was someone heading to work. As you say, perhaps someone without many good options.
secstateParticipantOr a very close pass. The article says the truck and cyclist were both heading north and the cyclist hit the curb.
Not a stretch of road I would want to cycle on. Looking south toward the I-270 overpass:

secstateParticipantHey Curtis — Great to see you in the Strava group, but I don’t see you on the FS leaderboard (indiv or team) quite yet. Have you authorized the leaderboard to read your Strava data (incl. private rides I think)?

secstateParticipantJust to say, I don’t have anything to tow in a trailer or cargo bike, but I’ve weirdly enjoyed this thread and always get a kick out of seeing cargo bikes in the wild. Would love to see a cargo bike & trailer parade around HP!
secstateParticipantGreat! I think you can just click “request to join” to get into the group (at least, I was able to).
If there are any specific non-brewery destinations you’ve been meaning to hit up (e.g., distant coffeeshops, bagel joints, etc.), feel free to suggest some. Personally I think we should crash one of Team 7’s coffee meet-ups in College Park one Saturday.

Would be fun to ride to a brewery. I’d love to check out three stars or port city.
I’d be down! Haven’t been to either. Would you like to set a date/time now?
secstateParticipantsecstateParticipantI stopped into Bourbon Coffee off the L Street cycletrack to tank up on caffeine before the opening happy hour. I rarely go for fancy drinks but have somehow been feeling rather calorie deprived since Jan. 1, so I ordered a dark mocha and an “everything” scone.
Bourbon is one of my favorite downtown coffeeshops — always a good variety of people in there holding business meetings, sneaking some time in away from the cubicles, working remotely, or just burning time. They have a good range of seating options: sofas, window counters, and tables. The coffee is good, too.

January 10, 2017 at 4:22 pm in reply to: Replacing my cranks & BB: what derailleur adjustments should I expect? #1063135secstateParticipantThank you — this is very useful advice, and good to have on record in the forum. The point about inexpensive crank arms sliding farther up the taper when new is especially interesting. Definitely not something one would guess.

At my agency it’s $20 a month and administratively burdensome.
Just out of curiosity, how much is the regular transportation or Metro subsidy?

I had a doughnut with Oreo crumbles. Nom nom. Delicious.
That is… allowed when you are putting in 200-mile weeks.

Your attachments are not showing on your post. Also, did you have the beer at Denizens or at your friend’s house? Only counts if the beer is drank at the brewery.
Ah, I will see if I can put them inline instead.
As I read the rules, the beer only has to be acquired at the brewery, not actually consumed on premises. But, they are your rules!
secstateParticipantDenizens is my neighborhood brewery, and fortunately it is good. I stopped in last night to pick up a 4-pack of their Belgian-style Tripel to bring to dinner with friends. I’m short on adjectives this morning, but we all agreed that the ale was good, that beer from Denizens is usually good, and that we all like the food there. (The food has apparently improved since their opening; I can recommend the quinoa burger for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike).
In allegedly “nicer” weather (??? — I had a great time riding yesterday!), the small bike rack out front is often full. There’s that game where you throw beanbags into holes. There’s also an event room downstairs. In sum, a great place to have in the neighborhood, and a worthy addition to your beerneuring calendars.
