ParticipantRandom update – I did not bike to the meeting, I drove.
I wasn’t comfortable getting there on time and looking (somewhat) professional for this lunch meeting.
That said, in the future I would be much more comfortable going by bike. I scouted out the “park” by foot, and it looks like there is a paved trail through Ragland Road Park that I could use to approach from the South. The office parks at the end of each of Tyco and Spring Hill do not connect to each other or the park, but you can get between them pretty easily via bike or foot, not car. They would probably also work if I used the Ashgrove Trail. Additionally, looking at the sidewalk along Rt. 7, I would be ok riding on the south sidewalk from Gosnell to Spring Hill for the shortest option.
I’ve ridden on International and Westpark before and would rather not do so when I need to make a left turn. Staying in the right lane on a eight (?!) lane road is one thing, moving all the way to the left to make a left turn is not cool.

ParticipantI’ve got a meeting off of Spring Hill Road (south of Rt. 7) in Tysons tomorrow. Ideas on routes from Gallows and Old Courthouse there? I’m not seeing anything obvious. I’ve ridden on Gosnell before (which I did not like), but even if I rode Gosnell, there is a park in the way between Gosnell and behind Spring Hill road. It is out of the way to get to the Ashgrove trail, but might consider it if it would work.
I need to be somewhat presentable at this meeting, so I’m not inclined to break a path through the park or get lost. Given the expected heat, it might be a day I just can’t make this trip work.

ParticipantMy father (who lives around DC) has spent some time trying to take public transport to NYC for years. He found he could get north of Baltimore through Metro and MARC and could get from Delaware through Philadelphia and NJ into NY. The problem was getting from where the MARC train stops (Perryville) into the Delaware system. Conceptually, you could bring bike between Perryville and Newark Del. (?) and then continue along. It would also be terribly slow and cheap, but if you have the time …

This is so purdy. I’d have a fleet of Salsas, if I had my way.
Will you be bringing it to pancake club so we can drool over it?
Sure! It’s such a nice bike. The guy I bought it from had built it up, and put on really nice components! We (and I mean dkel) already removed the front rack and will change out the pedals and tires and “dial in” the fenders. I’ve lost my granny gear, so something will need to change there (me or the gearing)! The fenders are so funny – never having had them before.

ParticipantNew bike!

2012 Salsa Vaya, all tricked out. Some of the trickery has been removed and more will be replaced (hate the dual pedals!). But, it’s great!

ParticipantPro tip – Caboose doesn’t have cell reception. This can be a very good thing or a very 12-texts-from-the-kids thing (!!!) depending on how you look at it.

ParticipantDKel has already mentioned most of the stops, but:
We also got a lecture from Officer Friendly, um.
I was promised U-Locks at EFC!! We’ve got some new bikes in the family that need locks!! #greedy
I received NO water bottles this year. The Tysons stop was OK. I hit that close to 9:00 when the singer was wrapping up. They did have a photo booth, so I got a photo strip of my-bike-and-me. A little odd, but nice.

There’s a ‘voluntary easement’ thingy from the WOD+Grove intersection straight to Giant that I’m very stoked about. Very. My contractually bound female human and I intend to be there tomorrow.
I would love to go, but I’m triple booked: work event in Rosslyn, Board of Supervisors Comprehensive Plan meeting for the Tysons Corner Urban Center at the FFX County Government Center and this FCC meeting.

Does the hidden stop sign cop have a place in the plan?
While it’s funny, that cop hasn’t been there in a long time – at least a year and a half. Have there been more recent sightings? My understanding is that we got a new police chief who tired of some of the policing annoyances and did away with them.

Participant… included getting son #2 to trumpet practice, waiving at MMPC, only yelling “DON’T DIE” a few times while escorting son #1 to school on his father’s fixie, riding to work the short way, and passing a hot dog on the Gallows bike lane.
So, happy hour after BTWD on Friday? Is that the third Thursday on a Friday that’s not the third?

ParticipantTo the guy in the high-viz jacket, the high-viz full-leg leg-warmers, the high-viz shoe covers, the high-viz gloves, hey, I saw you this morning! I was blinded for a little while, but I saw you!
