Thanks for the help! When I went through Monday, I did scoot to the front of the cars and proceed through the intersection quickly and turn into the Northside parking lot while dodging rubble. Mid-intersection, a car two behind me honked and zoomed around, clearly on their way to the hospital with a life-threatening emergency, which is the part I’d never had before there. I guess I’ll just grit it out as needed. I still don’t understand why Arlington has a major bike thoroughfare with an enormous gap in the middle. What do the planners think I’m supposed to do? Weaving through the back streets, while a good backup plan, doesn’t seem like the right response.

In all seriousness, am I supposed to cross the street at Highland and go the wrong way to cross Washington Blvd at Clarendon (sort of the reverse way to go in Northbound)? I saw another cyclist do that.

Mike’s was open a little late this morning, but within reason. Another establishment was suggested in the note, we could try it tomorrow?

I discovered at some point that moisturized skin just does better in the cold. So on windy, cold days I’ll put aquaphor on my face and maybe moisturizer on my legs and arms, that really helps somehow to keep in warmth.

For those interested, the donation went just fine.

I got a little turned around with the streets back there (man, what are they doing to the hospital!!), but that was my poor planning. My pulse was a little high, so I needed to wait about 20 minutes before they would take me back.

During and after the donation, other donors and staff asked me if I biked to work (I was wearing a BtWD shirt). I said “Yep, I usually ride to work. In fact, I rode here, and I need to ride to work from here!” The usual blather continued.

After donation, I drank two waters and two juices and had some cookies. Then, to escape the CNN coverage, I left. No one told me not to ride my bike, the only comment I got was to “not exercise.” Okey dokey.

In general, if you can, blood donation is a great thing to do! I got a specific call to donate, and felt I really needed to try and make it happen. I put in the effort to make it happen (via bike) and everything turned out well.

This is very helpful! I’ve never taken my bike on a bus before, but that’s a super easy bailout if needed. I think I’ll ride over there and see what happens. I can ride to work, ride to Mosaic and nosh, take the bus or Uber if I need to. Worst case, I leave the bike there and bus back in the evening to ride home.

I’ve never had trouble donating, so I *think* I’ll be ok. I didn’t want to get stranded there or worse, make a bad decision. (OK, not like this is going to prevent any of my bad decisions, but it’s a start.)

Hmm. I work in Tysons, so it would be about 5 miles down Gallows Road.

Due to the holiday on Monday, pancakes are iffy May 29. Team D-Rock will participate in the Falls Church City 3K and then hang out around City Hall with cheese fries and meat stick(s) and listen to the band. The 3k is at 9:00 and is a no-registration, no real running, must participate event in Falls Church.

I couldn’t begin to tell you when Mike’s will open, but I’m sure it’s not at 7:30.

We’d love to have any and all run with us, or help finish the cheese fries when I realize just how gross they are.

Do we get to claim Dave Grohl as an Arlingtonian?

Nope, cuz he went to Annandale High School.

    You can have Katie Couric.

Oh hey! I would really recommend the backside of the mall. Gallows to Tysons, right on Old Gallows Road and cross Rt. 7 on the funny bridge with low walls. Once you get over Rt. 7, you veer right again to be on Tysons One. Once you get to Fashion Blvd. (yo!), you have a bike path kind of thing on the right. It’s nice. Just keep bearing right. You take that around the mall until you get to the new apartment buildings and turn right onto Westpark Drive, which takes you over 123. Once over 123, you turn right onto Westpark Drive (again!) and past the Silverline Center. Right on Jones Branch and you are there.

There are some stressful parts, but its OK.

I usually avoid Gallows from the WOD and take Branch Ave., Echols, Wolf Trap, Lord Fairfax, but that would add additional miles. I would not loop around Spring Hill or Gallows/International. I do not like Woodford. Linky.

In all seriousness, it looks like she went for a ride, forgot to stop the recording on her watch when she got back to her house, drove kid to/picked up from school, then stopped the ride once she got back home.

Ahhh! That’s what confused me. She gets off the trail, then zooms up the climb, and then loops back around? Makes sense now. Segment flagged. I’ll let you know when my “friend” gets her QOM back. Although, it’s just been identified to people to steal legitimately!

Can you pass along the link for analysis? I frequently have to flag people’s files who either get in a car, or have a GPS error, so I’m pretty good at picking out what looks legit and what doesn’t. Check for multiple, fast accelerations at stop lights. 0-30 over and over again can be an indicator.

Here’s the QOM ride. Marshall MacArthur climb in Vienna.

    Asking for a friend.

So if someone takes your QOM by a healthy margin and even obliterates the KOM, but the ride doesn’t otherwise look funny, what to do? This person halved the KOM going just much faster than anyone else. It’s not at quite the end of the ride and this ride wasn’t otherwise epic for this person, nor is this person otherwise epic.

Is this something to flag? Berate them on social media? Ask them what they are using? Get over one’s self? Buy a new jersey and hope that makes you go faster? Donuts?
