Due to my amazing ability to have travel plans during any BA happy hours, I’m expecting no matter which day is decided upon, to be either out of state or out of the country. If I’m lucky enough to find myself within the beltway for the date chosen, bet that I’ll try my hardest to be there.

    Um… Oops?

    http://www.bicycleretailer.com/north-america/2013/12/09/asi-says-calgary-bike-shop-can-use-roubaix-name

Seems that Specialized didn’t actually own the trademark, but was licensing it from the company that makes Fuji / Kestrel.

In Ottawa visiting the corporate headquarters. Commute is 3 blocks, so I walked it:

This Bike is always attached to this post. In the 6 months I’ve been coming to Ottawa I haven’t actually seen it moved.

Just after I took this pic, some guy on a fixie with a drop handlebar rode down the street. I don’t think he heard me yelling “Rocking Rule #9!”

My commute takes me by Sweden too. I wonder if they have a VASA ride too. Totally sporting the only scarf I’ve ever earned.

And of course, Canadians must get their beer, even in the driving snow.

It was also interesting to see the weather change from frozen rain, to snow, to frozen rain, to snow, and back to frozen rain. At one point, it was snowing these huge fluffy snow flakes, while ice pellets were falling simultaneously.

    Galibier-esque?

I have to admit that I don’t always stop at a light. But I usually do. Not only is it the law, and not only is it safe, but it’s more relaxing. I have peace of mind.

I also think of it in a training mode: Every time you slow and stop, it’s a chance for interval training.

Downhill or uphill on that stretch of the Custis, I will stop and wait for the full cycle at Lynn and Fort Myer ever time. Intersection of Doom!

The difference here versus say riding through the rest of Arlington/Falls Church for me is that this part of the trail is on sidewalk.

Now, if it were on a dedicated bike lane on the asphault (which isn’t happening downhill, since Lee is one way uphill at that point), I’d stop and wait at every red light. When I’m on a sidewalk, I’m a pedestrian, and have to deal with pedestrians, even though I’m on a bike. So if I weren’t on a bike, would I jaywalk that red? If the answer is yes, then I’d probably jump the red as well on the bike… And that stop at Nash, sheesh.

But when I’m on Washington/Wilson/Clarendon/Vietch/Lee Hwy/etc, I’m a car, and cars stop and wait at all red lights. To me, that’s the difference.

And then lastly, If I’m at a red light, and there’s a child/kid/impressionable youth on a bike near or at the intersection, I’ll stop and wait.

Maybe… we should put a shared google calendar up of these things.

    Less javascript, more coffeescript.

It’s kind of tough putting together the 2014 ride calendar since very few events after April 1 have even posted a 2014 date.

Brunt of my energy was stopped by my shoulder. Luckily it’s just scraped.

Skull was saved by my helmet. I had a couple bruises shaped just like my helmet.

Lower back is still in some pain. I did have some nice bruising on my back where my Topeak Road Morph G got destroyed by my landing on it as well.

You: Woman in a Jeep Wrangler, going east bound on South Four Mile Run Drive
Me: Cyclist riding south on the W&OD, decked out for the cold and wind.

I know you had the green light, and I had a green walk light, but I’m not sure you saw me as you started your left turn across from the Barcroft Sports and Fitness center. I had enough time to plot out relative velocities and trajectories to know that even if you had seen me, we would have indeed met, as your drivers side door would have been the only thing that would have separated us. So with my lobster gloves, I went to squeeze my brake handles. I was then able to utilize my left shoulder, my lower back, and my helmet to employ Newton’s laws to ensure that friction kept us apart. Sorry that my clipless pedals didn’t hold on long enough, and decided to throw my bike at you, but as expected, they missed as you were already in the crosswalk by the time my bike came to rest in the intersection behind you.

And I will say this for the WABA phone app. It’s kind of useless when you’re in a daze and in pain.

Not exactly what I was expecting. Nicer really, but it needs a frame. Congrats team!

Wonder if we could commission the fine artists at Phoneix Bikes for a suitable frame.

This is the “soft launch.” 😮

Because, who other than CI shops deploy on a Friday?

When I buy online, it’s usually because they don’t have the specific thing/size in stock. I’ll go to a couple places looking for something, but at some point in time the riding around going to 3-4 shops is wasting time.

And any bike stores that are looking for an online shop presence, I happen to know a company that can help you do that.
