Macy’s has 45% off on gloves ending in two days(Monday 2/19). They are not cycling specific, but I lost my 35+ gloves, and need non-bulky replacement. I already have bulky gloves.

I plan to get these Sunday, and post here for those interested:
n18ParticipantYou: The owner of a Fuji Absolute 1.3 bike.
You cable locked your bike in the last few days to your helmet somewhere in Fairfax county, but you forgot to pass it through the rack. Lucky you, it’s still there. May have to do something with the rain in the last few days.
n18ParticipantBarMitts with lighter gloves are better than bulky and heavy gloves. BarMitts block the wind when it’s colder in the morning, and you don’t have to use them in the return trip if it’s warm enough.

Can’t tell from the picture. One time there were like 3 trees blocking Willow Pond Trail(Adjacent to Lee Highway/RT29, near Fair Oaks Mall) for several months. I reported it to Fairfax County Park Authority along with Google Maps link, and within 3 days they were removed. So they can do it, it’s just that someone has to report it. I don’t think it works for vegetation overgrowth though, they can barely cut grass.
n18ParticipantI built my own E-Bike battery(20 Ah) using genuine Samsung Li-Po batteries, cost me around $300. Buying the same capacity battery would have cost me $900, so that’s a big difference. 3+ Years now and so far no fires. I have experience and didn’t take shortcuts, but another person might burn his or somebody else’s house or apartment. I would prefer this to be done either at the federal level(So no buying non-UL listed only to find you can’t use it), or not at all. Apartment complexes owners should have a policy whether to require E-Bikes to be UL listed or not.
n18ParticipantGeneral UL testing for product designs(not each unit) costs around $4k to $15k, not specifically for UL 2849(Don’t know how much this would cost), so this means small shops can’t make them or make custom E-Bikes. They have to buy a UL certified kit from somewhere, even then, I doubt they would compete with big manufacturers. But since this is not on the federal level, non UL E-Bikes would still be sold, even in our area, they just won’t tell you that you won’t be able to use it if these laws pass.
June 23, 2022 at 5:20 pm in reply to: What to do with video of dangerous driver at signaled crosswalk in Arlington? #1121721n18ParticipantThese types of signals are a waste of money that better spent on better infrastructure. I thought HAWK Beacons are a better option, until I witnessed a car ignoring its 4 solid red lights and speeding(~35-40 MPH) while a lady and her kid were waiting to cross. They had the walk signal at the time, but luckily she looked before crossing. This was in Vienna, Maple Ave(RT123), 3 blocks west of the W&OD intersection(Street View here).
n18ParticipantWe could just call it Dirt Highway. Not really tied to anybody or any name. Not sure if the family approves.

n18ParticipantIf the image came from a phone without editing, then you can view its metadata that contains GPS location and camera info. Two ways:
1 – Using the free IrfanView(Windows only):

Click on Image–>Information–>EXIF info. If you don’t see “EXIF info” button, then the image doesn’t contain metadata.
2 – Upload the image to this web site:

1 – Repair stand for $40, seems of reasonable quality. It looks like this and has a tool tray(Black/Blue):
https://www.amazon.com/Yaheetech-Mechanic-Workshop-Maintenance-Extensible/dp/B00TGUL89C/
2 – Floor pump for $10, 160 PSI, Schrader/Presta compatible.
n18ParticipantI hope the perpetrator wins a bicycle!
n18Participantn18ParticipantPedestrian bridge collapsed earlier today in NE DC over 295, next to Lane PL. See this Google Maps link, and this Street View. It was caused by a truck that hit the bridge or its supports. It seems that no one was on the bridge, and few people had non-life threatening injuries. The bridge was last inspected in February and deemed structurally sound. Traffic is blocked both ways on 295, and not expected to clear before tomorrow.
