I even went out and got new kit in honor of the event! (Well, OK, a jersey & socks)

    It’s quite pro, as you’ll see :D

Still wearing the mushroom hat & the giant bugeye shades though.

I love that! Everyone I see on bikes in the mornings is smiling. We all look like we’re getting away with something awesome.

But there are Inverted U’s spread about – there is a whole series down the block at the library. And there are Us spread about. So look for them. But Shirlington is bike-friendly meaning that there will already be a lot of bikes there. Shirlington is also dog friendly…. so someone bring there dog to guard the bikes!

Well OK, but he’s awfully short…

I just signed up for Strava after using mapmyride for the past few months. What’s the etiquette on following people, especially those you only know online?

I just followed everyone in the Bike Arlington club on Strava, I figured that was safe :)

    J is my FAVORITE.

“I am on fire and have dangerous cargo on board: keep well clear of me.”, or “I am leaking dangerous cargo.”

Also, I now plan to loudly announce the following when entering all bars or coffee shops:

“My vessel is ‘healthy’ and I request free pratique.”

Rock! I noticed I’m not all the way at the bottom of the leader board on some segments anymore, that’s exciting :)

Watch out, roadies! I’m comin’ for ya!

No, keep watching. I’m not there yet. Maybe have a nap or something.

    We’re at 5382!

I worked out with a friend that I can ride to her house (about 2.5 miles) and Metro in on days I don’t do my full 10 mile commute – that way I can start ramping up my miles and log more rides!

Anyone notice the large uptick in horseflies? I think that’s what they are. They are really, really big. Often seen near the communal gardens on the WO&D in Arlington near Phoenix Bikes.

Ugh. Those things bite like a @#$%*&$%@#@%.

We really need forum handle, Twitter handle (if applicable), and real name. They can be so hard to keep straight.

We could just tattoo everyone’s WABA membership number on their forehead :D

Yes, could everyone please clearly label the front and back of your helmets with your forum handles for easy identification whilst riding? ;) People with particularly long names may need to label their jerseys instead.

Things I pondered on this morning’s commute:

Wow, it’s pretty humid out here. But it’s only 76 degrees! Yay!
I wonder how fast running Strava AND Bikebrain will kill my iPhone battery.
Raising my seat seems to be working out OK.
Man, I gotta figure out where to sit on this seat. I’m always moving. :P
My left cleat feels farther back than the right one. Maybe that’s why my toes are numb. (Later: Maybe that’s why my foot is cramping ow ow ow.)
This helmet and my head are not the same shape. Need new helmet. Or different head.
I have GOT to get new cycling sunglasses.
Hey, look at all those people in the cars stuck on the GW Parkway by the airport. Hi, people!
Oh cool, I’m kind of keeping up with that guy on the road bike!
Hmm. I think this guy in front of me could use some air in his tire.
Wow, these hills seem easier than usual.
I should stop riding with my mouth open, Now I’m thirsty.
Oops, scrubbed too much speed there.
Hey, if I don’t hunch over my back feels better!
    Hi, bridge!
Oh hey, there’s that guy on the road bike again.
Hi, Washington Monument! Hope you feel better soon!
Wow, that guy’s bike is so shiny and bluuuuuue!
That guy said he liked my silly helmet. :)
    Whee, cycletrack!
Um, pedestrians, you might not want to cross against the light. Especially not into the bike lane. Kthxbai!
Aww, do I HAVE to go inside now?

There was another job I interviewed for that just couldn’t turn around their offer fast enough. It’s in Alexandria near the King St. Metro, which would’ve been nice.

Move to Alexandria! We have a nice cheese shop.

It also occurs to me that my brake pads are 19 years old and probably ought to be replaced just on principle.
