Has anyone tried to use a quick release with track fork ends? With an internal cam QR skewer and a Surly tuggit chain tensioner (QR compatible), I think it should work. Just curious if any other singlespeeders have tried it.
My trusty bolt on wheel has died, and finding a disc 29er solid axle tubeless wheel with 135 spacing has been impossible.
Multiple times, on different bikes (Surly Karate Monkey, Jamis Exile, Matt Chester Mutinyman, etc.). It sucks if you have a disc brake because even if you have a chaintug on the drive side, when you use the disc brake, the wheel slips backwards on the disc side. And it happens even if you have the internal cam, steel head Shimano skewers.
I did a ride in Tahoe on a frame with track fork ends (Jamis Exile), and EVERY TIME I USED THE BACK BRAKE, the wheel slipped and the tire would quickly start rubbing the left chainstay. After about the 50th time it happened, I was ready to throw the bike off the cliff
After the trip, I converted an XT hub to a solid axle with nuts, and built it into a wheel. The problem went away, but I ended up giving the bike to my nephew.
BTW, I tried to convert another SS bike of mine into geared a few years ago, and I had a hard time finding a disc, 135mm, bolt on, geared rear hub beside the XT w/ solid axle conversion. I ended up giving up and not wanting to spend any more money on it, so I sent it to my brother as a singlespeed, who I’m 99% sure hasn’t ridden it at all
Looking up and down the internets, and this is the only one I could find: https://www.ebay.com/itm/283584814998
I also have an older Hope rear geared hub that I converted to bolt on with this kit: https://www.modernbike.com/product-2126292753

I believe drevil was originally inspired by this daily photo contest from four years ago: http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?16000-Freezing-Saddles-Side-Game-What-day-is-it-(-nationalday)
AKSHUALLY – all love Steve O 😮 – but I was inspired by a photo scavenger hunt with the Velopigs group that happened a month prior to when I started mine. I had so much fun with it, I wanted to do it for others. I later started using a bunch of “National Day” themes, but that wasn’t the intent at the beginning.
BTW, if you were eligible, but didn’t get your patch or stickers from the year that I did the contest (2021) and still want them, please let me know via direct message and not in this thread. They cost me a pretty penny and I don’t need them
That said, some got lost in the shuffle, so I’ll give them out until I run out. You can check here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1txiMf8yvNRFeJIabv6U2dvJAWa5fjJ7syal2tsN4gQ0/edit#gid=0

Wait…. So we don’t hafta solve a wordle?
I was thinking I wouldn’t be able to participate in the photo contest this year until /unless I figure out wordle. Which frankly might be a deal breaker for me
I’m the opposite, I love Wordle and play it daily. I have to be careful not to open this thread before I solve it [emoji16]

This is a good way to get frost bite…. I do NOT recommend wearing a non-breathable layer next to your skin. (Sincerely, Your local neighbourhood backcountry medic…)
Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. I’ve heard/seen/read several other people doing the rubber glove thing as a first layer like the OP. I was also just thinking about last night when I was working on my bikes with latex gloves on, and my hands were soaked after about an hour. I feel like that would be uncomfortable during a ride.
I did some googling on the phrase “vapor barrier rubber gloves”, and the first article I found says don’t do it because of frostbite. To be fair, he’s an explorer in extreme polar conditions.

ParticipantRubber gloves as first layer against your skin? I haven’t tried it yet myself, but I’ve heard of others doing that also (and keep a pair in my frame bag just in case).
I just imagine my hands getting all clammy when I start to work up a sweat, then getting cold (or yucky) because of the moisture. Do you find that at all?

Each winner shall receive a bottle of Stupid Silly Sour at tomorrow’s Happy Hour. Must be present or send an envoy to claim. Otherwise I will drink it.
Thanks for the setting this up, and for the prize Judd! I had to razz Boomer about the Danger Panda, but look, now he has perfected it!
Hope to ride with y’all again soon, and maybe we can find some stairs to play on

Darn, only 19.75 points, so close!
I realized that I have more patches, so anyone that has 14 points or more will get a patch (previously it was 20 points or more).
Also, if you are asking someone else to grab your stuff at the party, make sure they know your forum name because that is how it is listed on the spreadsheet.

Good ride, all! I had hoped to possibly catch Team 7 for 2nd place but it was not to be.
Next year will be the 10th FSLNHPP. We should do something cool, like ride our bikes in circles really late at night in the cold.
Sounds like a bike derby to me!
