It sure was cold out today! I dressed appropriately though. I had on two pairs of socks w/ foot warmers and shoe covers. I long sleeve body armor shirt, one short sleeve bib, I wind proof jacket. I cycling bib tights. 1 rubber gloves, I thin gloves, 1 thick gloves. & 1 face mask! I barely got coldπŸ˜ƒπŸ€£πŸŒ¬πŸš²πŸ’¨πŸ₯ΆπŸ§€πŸ™ƒ

Rubber gloves as first layer against your skin? I haven’t tried it yet myself, but I’ve heard of others doing that also (and keep a pair in my frame bag just in case).

I just imagine my hands getting all clammy when I start to work up a sweat, then getting cold (or yucky) because of the moisture. Do you find that at all?

This is a good way to get frost bite…. I do NOT recommend wearing a non-breathable layer next to your skin. (Sincerely, Your local neighbourhood backcountry medic…)

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. I’ve heard/seen/read several other people doing the rubber glove thing as a first layer like the OP. I was also just thinking about last night when I was working on my bikes with latex gloves on, and my hands were soaked after about an hour. I feel like that would be uncomfortable during a ride.

I did some googling on the phrase “vapor barrier rubber gloves”, and the first article I found says don’t do it because of frostbite. To be fair, he’s an explorer in extreme polar conditions.

I often use plastic bags (or cut-in-half Amazon shipping/cushioning pillows) over my feet, but always over my socks and not next to my skin.

It works for me. It keeps all the wind out, no matter how fast your going.
