3/6/24 – TEARY
Although a different tribe (Pojoaque in New Mexico) is represented by this statue at the NMAI , I couldn’t help but think of the plight of the Cherokee and their Trail of Tears into Oklahoma.
3/5 – HUNCH
This tree is hunched over, possibly due to the occasional overflow water from the river.
3/4 – FLAME
I saw my first frog of the season on the bike trail, and it got me thinking about the “boiling frog” fable, flames, and global warming.
3/3 – State
The flowers along the Rock Creek Trail are in a STATE of confusion and have bloomed early.
3/1 – Forty
I cut through the woods on tonight’s ride and found these two containers propped up: 16 oz can of Monster and 24 oz bottle of Corona. Somebody was having a good ol’ time with 40 oz of liquid!
2/29 – Image
I have an image in my head of people being angry at me on my ride this Saturday when we get to the climb after crossing Chain Bridge into Virginia, looking up at the top, then down at their GPS and seeing this 😀

2/27 SENSE
It makes little sense to me that folks don’t return their rented docking bikes to their proper location. Aren’t the penalties high for that, like $1000?
This abandoned bike was photoed at Lake Artemesia at 8:30 PM.
2/26/24 – OFTEN
When the moonlight is strong enough and I’m riding on a trail that I know well, I will OFTEN ride without turning my lights on.
EDIT – We try not to let each other know about our scavenger hunt finds before we post, so it made me smile to see JoM’s post and how similar ours are 💕
2/25- SMITH
In 1986, my favorite band in high school, The Smiths, played at the Charles E Smith Center at GWU.
I now know Morrissey is not someone I would hang out with, but back then I had no clue and I even emulated his look with a pompadour 😀 (this pic was from 2006, 20+ years after I started listening to them)
2/23/24 – APART
Disappointed in the shoddy work done applying the reflective hiker & biker symbol on the new College Park Trolley Trail extension in Hyattsville. After about a month, they’re already coming APART! 🙁
2/21/24 – BUILD
Las Vegas is working hard to BUILD their Pro Sports cred, and as quickly as possible. Starting with the Golden Knights in 2017, to the Aces and Raiders a few years later. They’re also grabbing Oakland’s other pro team, the As, next year and possibly getting a basketball team after that!
On my last Night here, I wanted to make sure to capture something quintessentially Vegas. Alas, the pervasive slot machines, where the games usually involve some sort of MATCH of characters or symbols.
What surprised me is how they are everywhere, including at the airport, ready to play right when you step off the plane.
This particular one was in a Smiths grocery store, equivalent to a Harris Teeter in our area.
Viva Las Vegas!
2/19/24 – Price
To my non-drinking self, the PRICE of each of these bottles of liquor inside a Costco in Vegas is INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE!!!!
I’ve been in this same Costco before and they had $20,000 and $24,000 liquor bottles (maybe whiskey?).
That said, I betcha some of the liquor connoisseurs would scoff at how much I spend on some of my bikes 🤪
