Thanks Kelley and Serdar for a great game.
Thanks to my awesome competitors for keeping it interesting and challenging.
The Dude ABIDEs.
And today, after 76 of 78 days, and 1003 miles, my bikes ABIDE. 😀

Participant3/18/24 and thus it ends with SPELT
We eat vegetarian at home and love spelt. But finding it in the wild is hard. After stopping at Heidelberg bakery (closed on Mondays, but has some great bread with spelt), I went to Lebanese Taverna Market (but they only use Bulgar Wheat). Eventually I made my way to The Italian Store where they absolutely have SPELT, though they SPELT it wrong (they spell it F-A-R-R-O).

Participant3/17/24 SNORT
After a long ride, my biking buddies needed a little stimulant, so decided to SNORT a line.
So nobody loses their security clearance, I was told to clarify they were SNORTing sweeteners and not cocaine!

Participant3/16/24 TOXIN
Though they look delicious, don’t eat holly berries! They contain the TOXIN Saponin, which is poisonous to humans (and dogs).

SCIENCE!
Note: I had contemplated finding @drevil’s jug and adding Diet Coke and Mentos. But I just didn’t have time to stage that photo today. This is the best I could do 🤷♂️🌋

ParticipantSINCE Robert E. Lee betrayed his country, the US government confiscated his estate overlooking DC.
Ever SINCE, the property has been a cemetery for our soldiers. From the Civil War onward.
SINCE the Black Lives Matter movement, Arlington has accelerated its efforts to stop celebrating Lee, including:
Washington-Lee high school was renamed Washington-Liberty.
Lee Highway was renamed Langston Blvd.
The Arlington Flag/logo no longer features Lee’s house (named Arlington House by its prior owner).

Participant3/13/24 LOCAL
I biked to my LOCAL fire department 🚒 this morning (Station 4 in Clarendon) and was fortunate to have a firefighter help me capture a photo of one of their truck’s windows with the IAFF LOCAL 2800 sticker on it. She even helped stage the photo with props (hook and coat).
(Since the forum image resolution is low, I’ll point out that the Union sticker is on the bottom left corner and says “FIRE FIGHTERS IAFF LOCAL 2800 ARLINGTON, VA”. Read about them here: https://www.iaff2800.com/ )
As a bonus LOCAL connection, my next door neighbor is a labor lawyer who represents the Arlington Firefighters Union (LOCAL 2800) in contract negotiations with the county.

Sometimes, root HEAVEs are ground down. Other times, they’re just highlighted.

Participant3/11/24 PESKY
Arlington is getting fed up with these PESKY deer and is making plans to cull the herd.
The overpopulation problem is destroying Arlington’s forested land (and many residents’ landscaping!)

cycler’s side note: it’s hard to find deer when you are looking for them! I cycled all over north Arlington where I’d seen them many times before. I came across this family (five total) just after giving up and heading back to city center. This is in the shadow of I66, at Spout Run.
Also, wildlife photography with a cell phone isn’t easy, either 😉

Participant3/10/24 GRASP
It’s easy to see Gandhi GRASP his walking stick in this photo. It’s harder for most to GRASP his method of nonviolence and peaceful resistance used to affect change in India.
Dr. Martin Luther King was one who did GRASP it, and it heavily influenced his approach to fighting racial inequality in this country.

Participant3/9/24 CHEER
This is a shoutout to @serdar because I know you like to bike your empties to the glass drop center.
“A History of Past CHEER”, if you will.

Participant@consularrider , glad to see your posting about the eclipse!!!
I’ll be nearby you for it! We’re traveling to New Harmony Indiana to see it (a reasonable “halfway” location to watch it with my family from MN).
I can’t wait!
(We went to Tennessee for the 2017 eclipse. Once you see one, you kinda get hooked!)
