Still closed as of 9AM 12/6
A live report at Noon from WJLA Ch. 7 indicates that section still closed. Probably from George Mason drive up to the Holiday Inn.

Watching me try to ride with a cup of coffee should be a treat for all.
There’s a tool for that. The Zojirushi mugs are worth the treasure hunt. Yeti also makes excellent mugs.

Got an email today that there will be light give-aways on November 1 (Rosslyn), November 2 (MVT near CC Connector), and November 3 (W&OD at Columbia Pike) from 4 to 6 PM. This time they are doing it before daylight saving ends (November 5)Anyone know if they are looking for volunteers to help?
Yes, they are! https://www.bikearlington.com/events/. The Eventbrite registration may be filled, but they will not turn away anyone who wants to help!

If you use the Custis, beware the walnuts in the section of trail between Lincoln St. and 20th St. Also, at the junction where the Roosevelt Bridge spur meets the start of the Trollheim bridge heading south. Those sneaky buggers could kick a tire sidewise causing an accident. FWIW.
Walnuts, you said?

That makes good sense.
But in the meantime, can they make the rail crossing at Pendelton safer for cyclists to traverse?

This is the crossing angle if you go due straight eastbound on Pendleton.Starduster
ParticipantLast posting for September. I had to report an emerging problem with the freshly paved Doctors Run Connector. The section above the picnic area has a steep dropoff on the downhill side.

And it appears some of that new asphalt has crumbled and fallen down the hill. I hope *without* taking a pedestrian or cyclist with it. It has been reported to Arlington County.
Ignore the tire pump image. That belongs elsewhere.

I seem to recall that Arlington built this park so it should be a 311 request.
There are replacement seals for these pumps that are supposed to be replaced yearly.

OK folks, I reported this to Arlington County on the website.

ParticipantAn update, from today’s Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/09/25/langenkamp-sarah-plea-bike-crash-bethesda/
The truck driver pleaded guilty, was fined $2000.00. “Sufficient justice”?

ParticipantI came. I saw. I rode. It was not bad at all. Granted, this was not during peak volume for this park. There will *still* be times when “full time trial mode” is not possible. But if it helps us cyclists co-exist better with the locals who picnic and fish here…

Judd: Is the CSX railroad spur & sidings that used to service the power plant and Robinson Terminal officially abandoned? The multiple tracks between E. Abington & N. Fairfax (behind the power plant) are seriously overgrown and reclaimed by nature-not a chance of rail traffic using it in its current state. Further south, while a couple of switches and sidings are removed, there is *still* the single track that crosses the Pendelton and N. Union turn, (with a rail crossing of Pendleton at a dangerously narrow angle,) serving the final Robinson Terminal building, and dead ending at the water project. What are Alexandria’s plans for that?

Just saw DrP reported too
Is the section of trail down to the pond finally open?

It will be interesting to see how they hold up. I’d expect we will start seeing dings and tire scrapes as motorists discover they don’t drive as well as they think.
Betcha a motorist complained when they hurt their car on the curb they didn’t see.

An update in the Doctors Run repairs, closest to me, from Wednesday:

The non-school, non-illuminated section of trail that ends and S. Quincy was breaking up badly. Now freshly paved, crumbling edges shored up, an honest 10 Ft. wide. The profile has not changed, so the sharp climbs/descents remain.I had not expected work on the spur that goes up to S. Randolph. But here is the before & after.

By no means an ADA compliant curb cut, but the crew from Parks & Recreation made it safer. Thank you.Starduster
