I saw the aftermath of that and wondered what had happened — worse than I could have imagined. Second State Dept staffer killed on bike in as many months. Both by right-turning trucks.

August 30, 2022 at 12:41 am #1121862DeweyParticipantAnother awful preventable tragedy. So sorry for her family and colleagues at State.
September 1, 2022 at 8:54 pm #1121875Steve OParticipantNote there is a Go Fund Me raising money for bike safety. Click here.
There will be a ride and memorial ghost bike placement on Monday, September 5
Ride leaves Bethesda kiss & ride at 10:45 amGhost bike ceremony at 11am SW side of River Rd. & MD190 (across from Kenwood Station shopping center)
A convoy to the ghost bike event will ride from Monday Pancake club at Mike’s Deli in Falls Church, leaving about 9:45
September 2, 2022 at 9:57 pm #1121879secstateParticipantThanks for posting, Steve. The information I received this morning states that the ride will depart the Kiss & Ride at 10:15am, with a speech at 10:45 and ghost bike installation at 11am.
You may want to leave a little earlier than 9:45 to make the speech, depending on how fast you plan to ride!
Here’s the note in full:
Bikers should arrive at the Kiss-and-Ride parking lot of the Bethesda metro station before 10:15, from which they will ride to the location of the accident at 5244 River Road in Bethesda. The ride will begin shortly thereafter, proceed along the Capital Crescent Trail and end at the site. Participants not biking can also join at the site. Parking is limited. Remarks and the placement of a white Ghost bike will take place at 11:00 am. A Police presence will direct traffic in order to protect participants on River Road near the accident location.September 3, 2022 at 1:14 pm #1121880LhasaCMParticipantFYI – seeing a lot of posts elsewhere sharing that the family is asking people to wear pink.

September 8, 2022 at 1:52 pm #1121909elbowsParticipantSome nice coverage of the moving event for her:
September 8, 2022 at 3:35 pm #1121908Steve OParticipantAnd a video of her widow speaking about bike safety
October 21, 2022 at 11:06 am #1121951consularriderParticipantThere will be a ride in Memory of Sarah on Saturday, November 19. It is from her kids school in Bethesda to the Capitol as a call to provide better infrastructure and protection for non-motorized road users.
I’ll double post this in Events
September 26, 2023 at 1:24 pm #1126883StardusterParticipantAn update, from today’s Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/09/25/langenkamp-sarah-plea-bike-crash-bethesda/
The truck driver pleaded guilty, was fined $2000.00. “Sufficient justice”?
