ParticipantI love the REI hybrid biking pants. Good fit around the ankles, not too tight so you can layer, windproof front and breathable rear. Often on sale.
I also regularly check Sierra.com, SteepAndCheap/Backcountry, and REI for sale/clearance as they regularly have stuff 50% off. Pear Izumi’s website usually has a huge clearance section too.

ParticipantThis is awful. At first when I saw the address I thought it was 1200 New Jersey SE, which is the DOT headquarters building that just had new protected bike lanes installed.

ParticipantThanks for sharing – as a city dweller I had no idea this was a thing. Will be cool to be able to bike to Manassas Battlefield or the campground at Bull Run

ParticipantWas watching local news over the lunch hour and they said Piney Branch Pkwy is reopening tomorrow, Oct 22, to vehicle traffic.
They did not mention, however, if the multi use trail will also be opening tomorrow.

Zoo loop bridge over Rock Creek Park opens today at 3 pm. However, the daylight-only opening hours will be in effect for the Zoo Loop trail that bypasses the tunnel. Still have to use the preposterously narrow sidewalk (or take the lane..).
According to the DCist article about the zoo bridge the Piney Branch spur is set to open mid-October. That’s great news but for some reason I thought the Piney Branch trail was going to take way longer. Any insight on that timeline anyone?

ParticipantThanks!

ParticipantAny updates when the Rock Creek tunnel bypass is going to open? I thought it was supposed to open by end of July but can’t find any updates anywhere.

My front caliper is just barely clearing the disk because the inserts in the fork are not quite “true”. Does anyone know of a shop in the DC area that has this tool for fixing this problem.
I think any shop can do it

Even better – paving wrapped up about a week ago and Wednesday-ish (maybe the day after you went through?) the fencing was taken down for the bike path. There’s still some work in the area – mostly landscaping – but the path is open and it seems folks are loving it!
Yep rode through Tuesday evening!

While a lot has been done the past few months for the MBT extension to Fort Totten, it hasn’t necessarily looked like it. However, very visible progress has occurred over the past couple of days. It appears the site work is getting close to finished near Fort Totten, so the final asphalt segment has been paved. All that’s left is a bit of brickwork, cleanup, and removing the barriers. Hopefully soon!

If you’re willing to go around the orange construction cones the trail is entirely paved from the transfer station to Ft Totten Metro! I rode it a few days back on my way back home to Petworth from a friend’s in Brookland.

If you were willing to camp, I would have lots of suggestions for you. Otherwise, there are several bed and breakfast options in Loudoun County on some quiet country roads (most of which are gravel, but could be ridden on a road bike with wider tires). Unfortunately, I do not have many paved options either.
I would very much enjoy your camping suggestions, provided they are not just out the C&O and back (not that there is anything wrong with that, just that I already know!)
