Make that three! Hit the slush last night at speed near the tennis courts at Shreve on the WOD….it was dark, I was rolling too fast, and I’m an idiot. Got sideways and ended up in the ditch…. which was filled with ice cold water and slush. I emerged half soaked and really cold. Had to strip down on the trail and put on the spare clothes from my backpack…. well at least the ones that were on the dry side of the back pack….. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF*&K
Twice in the same day at the same spot? I was feeling proud of myself when I rolled through most of the WOD slush last night, but I walked that part.

ParticipantI don’t think it’s all NFCU. Follin Road has been torn up for 6+ months at this point. If they aren’t constructing an entirely a new bunker for Congress…

ParticipantMike’s parking lot was in the process of being cleared when DKel and I rode past this afternoon. While they may open late tomorrow, they will be open for Monday (Morning) Pancake Club. (OK, it looks like they opened at 11:00 this morning. A little late for on-the-way-to-work.)
In Falls Church City, Spring Street across Rt. 7 was great, and Park and West streets north of Rt. 7 were good. West St. south of Rt. 7 didn’t look good. We doubled back through Park and Spring to get home.

ParticipantI have an old cotton stretchy buff thing I use when it’s this cold. I hate covering my nose and mouth when I ride. I use it mainly for my neck and to pull up over my mouth at lights or otherwise when stopped.

ParticipantHi – I’m Kathleen and met some of you at the happy hour in G’town. I bike from Falls Church to Tysons most days. I’m the cyclist going west in the morning around 8:00 or so and then East around 6:30? There aren’t too many of us so say hi and make a friend! I’m also part of Team D-Rock, which is a very select team that likes to ride for beer and go to pancakes. You can find me most Mondays at MMP(ancake)C(club) and I dream of making the Vienna Thursday club, but it’s just so early!
I’ve got a Salsa Vaya with red handlebar tape, and I’m rockin’ a rack and fenders.
I am not available for the beer ride this Saturday.
Team D-Rock has another engagement in Georgetown involving coffee. I’m usually available for rides on the weekends, but life has been hectic lately. Kid1 might be passing algebra now though, so time might be freed up. Kid2 is destined for a disaster now, right?
Is anyone interested in a Facebook page? Would that make this easier or harder?

ParticipantLet me check with my beer partner on another team. We had another ride scheduled, but may be able to postpone.
Anyone up for a ride Monday? I think I will take the holiday off of work. I’d plan to start at Monday Morning Pancakes in Falls Church and end somewhere?

And I agree, coffee at Mike’s Deli is mighty awful[emoji13]
I make no comment about the quality of the coffee, but mention, ITS FIFTY CENTS. It exceeds my fifty cent coffee expectations. Particularly combined with an “english muffin”, eggs and bacon on the side.

ParticipantI had the same problem with that same tire. I broke two levers – one in the tire – and swore up and down trying to put them on earlier this year. The hubs eventually got the tires on and I decided if I get a flat, you will see me crying softly on the side of the trail until someone stops to help. Someone got me speed levers for Xmas because he thought they might help in case of a flat. All the you-tube videos in the world didn’t help.

ParticipantReminder of Pancakes and other Coffee Clubs! A great way to get in some additional miles (maybe?) and meet folks during the week. Mike’s Deli in Falls Church is steps off the WOD and has the cheapest coffee around. I hear this Monday is Consularrider’s last for a while.
Mike’s Deli, Mondays, from about 7:30 to 8:30.

You’re right. Post amended.
BTW, if I don’t say hi to you there along Idylwood Park it’s because I can’t recognize you when you’re so bundled up!
Of course I have the same excuse! I did think that day (Tuesday?) the FOUR and only FOUR cyclists I saw that ENTIRE day were probably doing Freezing Saddles. I should just say hi to everyone!

I’m expecting forum pedants to advise me of the dangers of hyponatremia now. Thanks.
Did you expect something else?

Perhaps a pointless prize to the team that has the most epic showdown?
Watch what you wish for.

ParticipantNot to give anyone ideas, but you don’t need to ride FROM YOUR HOME or BACK TO YOUR HOME from these beer trips. Conceivably you could drive to [someplace far away] and then bike around to a few breweries, reconnect with your car and drive home. Alternatively, you could bike to Mad Fox, Caboose, Old Ox and Lost Rhino and stumble home via Metro.
