Did you read the book in between the time jopamora posted and now???
Well I’m only halfway done. I downloaded it at 2:30ish, read for a bit on my lunch break, read a little more on the Metro home. I read very quickly.

ParticipantOh I need to add one of these to my list, while I’m spending my imaginary loot: http://vanillabicycles.com/frames/touring/

ParticipantThose are cool. I actually like the curved top tube on those with the way it flows into the seat stays, and I usually dislike the look of curved top tubes.

I don’t think the difference between 26″ and 700c tires would be that significant, assuming the same tire compound/tread/width.
Oh, true, I wasn’t thinking about width. 23mm tires would be all cute in 26″

Just finished It’s All About the Bike by Robert Penn. A good story with a fair amount of bicycling history.
Well now that I know the horrible death that awaits me should my handlebars snap on a 50 mph descent (as I have so many of those on my commute, you know) I will be sure to sleep well tonight and I won’t be imagining that AT ALL on my ride tomorrow. Nope. Not ONE TEENSY BIT. Thanks, Robert Penn. :p
On the other hand, I now know that Tullio Campagnolo invented QR skewers in 1920-something, and that is cool.

ParticipantYup, tire size & rolling resistance get all up in there – as i understand it my wee 26″ tires do not go as far or as fast as 700C tires would, other stuff being equal.
KelOnWheels
ParticipantAllegedly at 7:30, although most people start rolling in around 8, which is when I SHOULD roll out, but somehow never do…

I greatly enjoyed the Bike Snob’s “Enlightened Cyclist” and have been meaning to ask the forum for anyone’s thoughts on his approach to bike commuting and commuting in general.
Now I will have to re-read it so that I can properly answer your question

On the lighter side of things, the BikeSnobNYC books are great. I’ve read Bike Snob and it was very good, although kind of a re-cap of his blog. I have not yet read The Enlightened Cyclist yet but plan to. I am a big BSNYC fan.
Those are both entertaining
Grant Petersen’s book is interesting, I also want to read Effective Cycling but the Kindle edition is $20.
I just started It’s All About the Bike (downloaded it at lunchtime).

ParticipantI predict this mysterious phenomenon will be very strong tomorrow, particularly in the area of 17th & G St NW, and even stronger next week when I have to go in to work 90 minutes earlier than usual. :p

Participant9264! Very close!

ParticipantYup. I just weighed my bike and it’s 35.4 lbs with rack & seat bag.
Oh wait, the U-lock was on it. So about 34 lbs.

Also saw KelOnWheels by DCA…I recognized her from happy hour, but have never formally introduced myself, so I didn’t want to yell at her like a crazy person.
Oh please do, I’m terrible at figuring out who people are and I’d like to be able to recognize more people out on the trails
KelOnWheels
ParticipantOh jeez! You came through there shortly after I did, sounds like. So glad you didn’t get hurt! Those mower dudes were seriously honey badgering – the one I passed was taking up the whole northbound side of the path and blowing grass everywhere. Most mower guys I pass usually are courteous enough to shut the blades off when people are going by.

I think I saw about half of you on the ride home.
Which half? The green & purple side or the regular-colored side?
