Participant“The one I used is found by the Media Center in Oak View Elementary School in Silver Spring. Whether you could “go see” it is questionable; I was rather startled that no one stopped me when I walked into a public elementary school after dark to take the photo. However, the artist is Steven Weitzman. It appears that this is his website.”
Thanks so much – I took a look at his website. What a talent! And even working with a studio of artists, that’s still an amazing output! Wow!

Participant2/23/24. This is the lamest piece of public art in Reston. It was obviously low budget. But it is nonetheless, public art, on a gloomy day, when I just wanted to get home!

Participant@JoM — that was a laugh out loud. SO glad no drevils were hurt in that set up. Very, very clever!
@bikingjenn – So heavy, and heavy that this generation, full of self sacrifice and sacrifice on behalf of others is largely gone now. Thank you for the reminder! By the way, your photo of the Wilson Bridge was “calendar” quality. I’d like to put it on some things (with proper credit) – can you send me an email, kbikeva@gmail.com?February 22, 2024 at 7:02 pm in reply to: 2024 Photo Scavenger Hunt – Rules and Alternate Words #1132549Kbikeva
Participant@aaron-bikes – thanks for the words and for the photos. Poor Lady Liberty – the British crown is just under 5 lbs so going by that, hers might be heavy too – and she wears it non-stop, unlike King Charles.
@karenbikes2 – I’m impressed you could find some sky for this photo – that poor sculpture is really hemmed in by buildings now. I did giggle when I saw that the crane looks like it’s poking her posterior. 🙂
@ChristinaSwartz – that is a lovely photo – just “kissed” with morning pink and a beautiful poem. Thank you!
@AlanA – no worries. And because you looked it up, I had to look up a frame of reference. A fully grown male elephant averages 5 tons. A fully grown female blue whale (they’re bigger than the males) averages 150 tons. So 600 is a LOTTA water weight! I just love googling.February 22, 2024 at 4:00 pm in reply to: 2024 Photo Scavenger Hunt – Rules and Alternate Words #1132539Kbikeva
Participant@cvcalhoun and @lhasaCM — you’re both right, ‘nearby’ is a relative thing. But I’m a slow rider by choice, so getting too far out is a challenge sometimes, especially when there are other things I need to do that day. 🙂 The #fire game has actually opened my eyes to how few fire stations there are and how far apart they are. I live 1 mile from the one that would respond to my home if something happened – and now I truly consider myself lucky!
@cvcalhoun, I think the reward for winning is getting to run the game, so players might want to factor that into their planning! ha haAnd today, after all the kerfuffle, the photos rolling in are some of the best I’ve seen, so apparently the earth is still revolving and rotating correctly.
@cbganimal, I’m so sorry you are missing her, but what a beautiful way to express this word.
@alana, how many tons is 1.5 million gallons?
@CaseyKane50, the Wilson Bridge provides so many great photo opps – and you caught one. Do you remember before they redid the bridge and riding through that area was so creepy?
@DCAKen — HA HA HA HA HA – this is priceless
@CCRider50 – I love the concept of heavy lifting. The Canal is a treasure.
@Consularrider – I didn’t know this concept existed! Now I’m going to do some research!
@bikesnick – That’s what I always tell our new adult riders – the BikeShare bikes will be heavy but really stable. And when you are tired of using them, it will be time to purchase your first used bike!Kelley

Participant4 shops on my card, not a one of them is for ice cream. Just between us though, I’m going to pretend it is and seek out a specialty ice cream place tomorrow anyway. Just because. 🙂
