Judd, I miss your smile and positivity, and I’m glad to see you’ve still got it! That machine sounds absolutely amazing, I cannot wait to get back and ride on the new smooth, comfortable, flat, and fast (15mph limit of course) MVT!
Miss you too Andy! We’ve joked some about having to reinstall bumps for speed calming purposes.

They have repaved the connector trail from the Intersection of Doom to the GW parkway overpass. So smooth. It is lovely.
This was done by Arlington County based on a 311 request submitted by Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail. The staff member handling the request was great. He checked out the area the day after the ticket was submitted and marked all of the bumps that were on the hill as an interim measure.

I just bought a merino wool base layer on sale from REI (original suggestion from Karen, coffee club affirmed the wisdom of it)
SmartWool base layers and socks were a game changer for winter cycling. REI usually has good deals on them near the end of winter when they are trying to clear inventory.

If you use the Custis, beware the walnuts in the section of trail between Lincoln St. and 20th St. Also, at the junction where the Roosevelt Bridge spur meets the start of the Trollheim bridge heading south. Those sneaky buggers could kick a tire sidewise causing an accident. FWIW.
An FoMVT volunteer took care of the ones on Trollheim tonight.

Yesterday- the bike repair stand @ W&OD & Columbia pike. The “unbreakable tire pump” was found broken, with a replacement floor pump chained to it. Schraeder valve only.

While I was documenting this, another cyclist came up needing air. He ran Presta. On the one day I didn’t bring my hand pump. I tried to direct him up the hill to Phoenix Bikes, but he demurred.
Who do we report this to again?

I seem to recall that Arlington built this park so it should be a 311 request.
There are replacement seals for these pumps that are supposed to be replaced yearly.

Judd: Is the CSX railroad spur & sidings that used to service the power plant and Robinson Terminal officially abandoned? The multiple tracks between E. Abington & N. Fairfax (behind the power plant) are seriously overgrown and reclaimed by nature-not a chance of rail traffic using it in its current state. Further south, while a couple of switches and sidings are removed, there is *still* the single track that crosses the Pendelton and N. Union turn, (with a rail crossing of Pendleton at a dangerously narrow angle,) serving the final Robinson Terminal building, and dead ending at the water project. What are Alexandria’s plans for that?
It’s not officially abandoned though it hasn’t served any customers since around 2013 after the power plant shut down and WaPo stopped using Robinson Terminal for paper storage. He HRP folks intend to redevelop the corridor into trail and park space as envisioned in the area plan. It’s going to be a while before that happens.

I wonder if they’ll remove the abandoned moped that’s been there for months? And the downed tree.
This was one unnamed old man’s nature break spot, but I will prefer the completed trail for sure.
Moped and tree are gone. NPS cleared out a massive amount of honeysuckle overgrowing the trail this summer. They even managed to back a chipper shredder down the trail and through the tunnel. The trail edge has some debris that needs to be removed and a couple of bumps and there’s some regrowth of the honeysuckle to cut again.

An update in the Doctors Run repairs, closest to me, from Wednesday:

The non-school, non-illuminated section of trail that ends and S. Quincy was breaking up badly. Now freshly paved, crumbling edges shored up, an honest 10 Ft. wide. The profile has not changed, so the sharp climbs/descents remain.I had not expected work on the spur that goes up to S. Randolph. But here is the before & after.

By no means an ADA compliant curb cut, but the crew from Parks & Recreation made it safer. Thank you.An ADA complaint might be effective in this instance since they did install a ramp but not an ADA compliant one. The process is pretty easy. I had a good and successful experience using it to get some curbs fixed near the Pentagon (after Chris Slatt did all the leg work to identify who owned the issue.)

It’s truly valuable for safety in that blind corner. Does anybody have the contact info for those responsible for replacing it?
