ParticipantI like the lobster gloves, definitely less of a pain than bar mitts if it’s not absolutely ridiculously cold (at least for my hands).
What’s the rationale for the emphasis on the left side for the headlight?
As an aside, I am glad to not be commuting on the W&OD/Custis anymore and dealing with all the arguments over light etiquette. But if anyone asks, I’m of the opinion that there’s no reason to cover it (I’m trying to ride with the light illuminating the path forward, not riding in the dark). However, it should be solid and appropriately angled or positioned, and probably not unnecessarily bright. We’re not mountain biking.

ParticipantWow, this thread might be my lifetime crowning achievement. Imagine all the redundant threads that’d be clogging up the pipes without this one. Unfortunately, there’s probably no BAFS for me this year, but I’m glad to see lots of new participants!
I highly recommend participating in the photo scavenger hunt pointless prize if someone’s hosting it this year.

Participant1/4/22: Right Triangle
It was cold, but there’s no snow up here. Easy riding compared to the DMV I bet. There were a lot of options, but my favorite was part of this tent structure:
Viewed “head-on”, I don’t think they’d be right triangles, but from this viewpoint, the middle ones are. You also get the skyline and the sunrise.josh
Participant1/3/22: Sphere
I decided against a sculpture and went with the natural today, a black walnut found in the Centennial Arboretum:
I won’t deign to address AlanA’s comment (yesterday’s or the inevitable one on this one)

Participant1/2/2022: Rhombus
Dangerously similar to yesterday:
However, any square is also a rhombus.Point of clarification: the rules mention that
Quote:Your Forum post must be titled with the date and the found object/themeBased on above comments, it seems like the title isn’t sufficient. Does the date/prompt need to be in the post body as well?

Participant1/1/2022: Square
I was lured back to FS, albeit as a slacker. Here’s my square:
Rittenhouse Square is pretty during any season, although this picture of an adjacent building’s temporary address sign doesn’t quite demonstrate that.josh
ParticipantI can maybe fit into an XS. If you’re OK with a slacker/friend of BAFS entering who isn’t located in the area, count me in. If not, then I’ll survive and I understand.

ParticipantI don’t have one, but I’d recommend the DC Used Bike Marketplace for things like this (assuming you have a Facebook account). I think it’d get more eyes over there.

Never been there. Do we have to bring our own refreshments, or is there a bar/food place there?
The one time I’ve been there, there was this place (with invalid cert, and also then gives you a 404) with some basic drinks and food — more of a concession stand than a restaurant IIRC. There are some not terribly helpful reviews on Google Maps for Potomac Grille as well.

3/19/21 – “Freezing Saddles” 5-letter word (or longer) subanagram
Wish I could be at Hains Point, but I’m a little far away for that. I think this is the first time I haven’t taken the last day of FS off of work (actually I’m not sure about last year, COVID had already gotten to us by then). Here’s Federal Street:

3/18/21 – Blue US Postal Service Collection Box (or if not in the U.S., the equivalent) with your bike leaning against it
Snuck out into the rain for a mini ride and found this box in front of the Post Office.

3/17/21 – Rainbow, Leprechaun, or 4-Leaf Clover.
I went to an Irish pub first, but I didn’t see any relevant decorations from a respectable distance, nor did I want to brave the throngs standing closer to it. I meandered around, quickly ending up in the Gayborhood where there were plenty of rainbows. I continued to aimlessly look around, and I had a serendipitous moment — I found a temporary (it looked to be paper of some sort) mural with some people riding rainbows on skateboards.

It’s not St. Patrick’s themed, but I figured it was pretty cool, so that’s what I’m going with.

ParticipantI have no personal experience, but I know that bentbike33 rides (and commuted in the “before” days) on a recumbent. I’m not sure about Catedrew‘s commuting situation, but she rides a trike which I figure has some similarities to a typical recumbent. You could try sending then a PM if they don’t see this themselves.

3/16/21 – Panda or Danger Panda
The #dangerpanda is a lot easier than the first time I tried it maybe 3 years back. I actually couldn’t ride with no hands until about the same time, and I figured it’d be a good skill to have.
I wanted to get a panda in the shot as well, but my planned targets had their names high up on the storefront which doesn’t play nicely with #dangerpanda rules. Maybe I should’ve went for the footless variants, but I think I should probably practice those first. I love and miss Pete Beers, and we should all go for a bike ride!
