My only problem is that all this weather has caused my bike to be encrusted with grit everywhere, particularly where I notice it the most: drivetrain, rims…really frustrating, really time-consuming to clean up, really going to destroy the brakes in short order.
Indeed. I just did a thorough cleaning and installed a new chain and cassette. Previous set was worn prematurely from rain riding. Now that the nice, clean, new one is on I don’t want to rain ride! On the plus side, my sleazey test ride was butter smooth with no chain slipping/skipping! And I can now change a cassette and chain!

ParticipantIt just so happens that a roundtrip to the grocery store from my apartment is basically 1 mile. I’m getting my mile minimum in by doing this ride pretty much every day for the purpose of getting those groceries that we always seem to forget. Although the ride serves a functional purpose, I still feel a little sleazy and counteract this feeling by extending my ride into a pointless 2 mile loop around Sligo Creek Trail. This makes me feel like i’m not completely cheating the system 😎

ParticipantIf anyone is in the National Harbor area and wants to try to see this with a bunch of astronomers, let me know. The Super Bowl of Astronomy is wrapping up there tomorrow and we will be there and try to watch!

ParticipantI love these threads, having started one myself a ways back. I couldn’t decide and most of my bike money was diverted to kitten surgery.
My expensive options:
Bianchi Volpe – if I had the money I’d get this one.
Kona Jake – nice riding bike and a good value. Some on here own it and have nothing but good things to say.The budget option that I’ve been looking at with the decreased moneys:
The Windsor Tourist – steel touring bike. Lots of Internet reviews here if you’re skeptical. It seems to be popular with budget trans America touring cyclists. At $600 the components are good for the price IMHO. Its allegedly the equivalent to a Fuji Touring frame if you want to try to test ride something similar. Geometry looks to be built for comfort. They’re supposed to be restocking this January.

ParticipantMy commute is where my miles come in. My commute starts next week and mileage will increase and get Action News Team One up to (and hopefully above) our handicap!
Plus my bike’s been in the “shop” getting a pitchfork mount attached. It gets inconvenient having to carry it in hand everywhere. Let the bike hold the weight!

I missed today
, but I did log rides on 1st and yesterday to work and home (in the middle of that stupid storm–which I feel like is a double anti-sleaze ride making up for my likely sleaze ride to get coffee tomorrow morning).
Hey, I’ve had nothing but sleaze rides so far. 2 mile loops around my neighborhood. Somehow 2 miles seems less sleazy than 1 mile rides which I did often during the NBC.

Team One Kel Is A Terrible Teammate Cos She Has Bronchitis 2014
Those are all superior to my idea: Team One – Chicken’s of the Cave
Except of course the Bronchitis part. Get well soon! Try some Scotchy-scotch?

ParticipantDoing small errand rides to get at least some points for my Freezing Saddles team. Luckily the bank was closed so I got double the miles from having to go back!
I came up with an idea while riding with the big metal boxes. Winter Cylist Service! Carry snow brushes in your pannier, then charge people to brush off their back windows when stopped at stoplights. I guess the cagers are too weak and frail to brush off their windows so they can actually see while driving, so i’m thinking setup my iphone with that square app to take credit card payments and make a little bit of side money! Winter version of windshield cleaners!

I almost made it to happy hour, except my feetses got cold, and the pajamas beckoned.
Go Team ONE! We’re already number one without even having to ride!
