Not having a good day today. I got the same Taft one earlier, but couldn’t check the boards from my bike until too late. The same thing as happened with my McKinley photo. Sigh!

Too late, though. Might have managed it, if I hadn’t decided to be good and not dislike my competitors.

With luck (since I’m doing this from my phone), Grover Cleveland.

I’m another one whose contribution consists mostly of riding every day, because my mileage is nothing to brag about. But I don’t think we need more of a daily bonus. As it is, my 1.3-mile daily rides are doing as much good to the team as if one of my more active teammates added another 11.3 miles to his or her daily ride. I just can’t see them being worth more than that. And while we want to encourage everyone to get out there on a daily basis, a huge daily bonus might actually discourage people from taking longer rides, because they’d figure they got almost all of their contribution just in that first mile.

This one would qualify, except that a) I didn’t take it, and b) it was taken too early to qualify for this contest. But surely, someone could bike over there and snap a photo?

Yeah, I got about 50 feet up the trail (no studs or special equipment), gave it up as a bad job, and slogged up Wisconsin Avenue out of Georgetown.

The Capital Crescent Trail is plowed from the DC line to Georgetown, but that just means a thin layer of snow on top of thin ice. From River Rd to the Dalecarlia tunnel there is a 1.5 foot trail of packed snow. From Bethesda to River Rd the trail is mostly packed snow. The bridges still have a fair amount of snow so be extra careful crossing. The Georgetown Branch is bumpy on top of bumpy on top of bumpy.

205 exactly this morning. No, there is no way I’m going to maintain this rate of weight loss.

I suppose this is a good day to start this competition. What with eating much too much of a turkey, plus some other odds and ends, yesterday, I started today at 210 lbs.

I have lots of cold weather clothing, but my bike is not good with ice. Fortunately, the streets around me weren’t bad, so I at least managed to get in my sleaze ride to the Y.

I don’t know about consularrider, but I wear a light shirt, then a turtleneck wool sweater, then an LLBean down parka. There is a wool face mask and a wool cap under my helmet. I have Bar Mitts on my handlebars, and wear ski gloves under them. With all that, I am literally never cold on a bike ride, no matter what the external temperature.

I’m in a similar situation. Before FS, I typically bicycled two days a week, for a total of about 30 miles. The good news is, it’s not hard to beat my handicap. The bad news is, continuing at that pace would put my position on the leaderboard so far down that I wouldn’t even be seen!

I’m now bicycling every day, lengthening some of my normal rides, and taking some extra medium-length rides. But I have decided not to be at all concerned over whether my ride is a sleaze ride. So on my rest days, I bicycle to the Y and back, a 1.3 mile round trip. I figure that still allows me plenty of rest.

Van Buren. I don’t dislike Mikey’s all that much. But having bicycled 10 miles out of my way to get this one, I wanted to make sure it wasn’t moot before I even got home.

Hey, it’s not easy finding a way to distinguish John Quincy Adams from John Adams!
