Good morning folks, welcome to Freezing Saddles. If you thought today was cold wait till tomorrow!
As you know Freezing Saddles is an all volunteer effort, and I volunteered to offer side bets throughout the competition, for a little added competition (for those who can’t get enough) or for those who are already out of the running for miles or team championships but still want the added sting of defeat from yet another contest ;)

This first week’s side bet is quick, but will not be realized until the end of the competition. I’m throwing this out here in honor of all of those new years resolutions to lose weight, and get in shape. Side Bet #1 is a “Biggest Loser” contest, but since that’s probably trade marked I’ll just call it the “Fattest Loser” contest. As Freezing Saddlers you have an advantage over your fellow men/women since you will actually be getting out there this winter and living rule 5, 9, and often rule 10. Rules for this side bet are simple: (on your honor) weigh your self this week and post your weight on this thread (if you are brave). Ride like hell for 78 days then weigh your self again (on the same scale if possible) and post your weight again on March 18t-19th. Quote your original post in your follow up post and do your own math. Male and Female winners will be the ones who lose the largest % of their body wieght. The winner will receive some sort of yummy pastry/cupcake/bacon-cheddar scone (?)

Now I need to go find a scale.

Even as a vegetarian I found that pretty funny. :D

Got a suggestion for a side bet. Most segments flagged.

206.3 this morning. Want to get down to 165 for bikini season.

Checked in at 198.9 today, despite eating what feels like 3k calories a day for the first three weeks of the year.

205 exactly this morning. No, there is no way I’m going to maintain this rate of weight loss.

I suppose this is a good day to start this competition. What with eating much too much of a turkey, plus some other odds and ends, yesterday, I started today at 210 lbs.

I find it hard to believe that you are only eating 3k calories per day.

Maybe he was just including the snacks. Mealtime calories are different!

When I’m at work it’s pretty easy to manage (there’s an app for that!) but on the weekend, yeah. Saturdays and Sundays are a haze of undisciplined binge eating. So maybe I’m averaging 3k.

    Why not.

174 as of 1/3/14. Target: Less than that.

This comes as a surprise to me, but 169 today. Must be all those calories I burned cursing at the ice.

I’m pretty darn sure I’m not going to win this challenge (because I’ve done essentially nothing to amend my foolish dietary ways) but I was really surprised to see that my scale read 182.5 tonight when I got home, compared with my 188 on Jan 2. Who knew? I find it encouraging. I’m sure all of you more disciplined folks on this challenge can do even better! (I might as well be a cheerleader, if I can’t win…)

Something about this challenge is clearly having good effects. I’m down from 210 to 200 as of this morning. By comparison, I’d lost only 7 lbs. in the whole preceding year!

202 on 1/2 (forgot to post) to 206 today — can there be a prize for largest weight gain? =D
