    I gave in and officially joined the slacker team! (Thanks to rcannon100 and greenbelt for permitting the very slacker late entry.) I decided to not let my pride get in the way of enjoying the social aspects of the competition :)

    I’ll be back for a real go next year. Or at least that’s the current plan.

    So much for our race to the basement…….

    Definitely look at the Salsa Vaya, some of the nicest things about the vaya are the sloping top tube, the incredibly wide tire clearance, and the placement of the disc brakes. And this doesnt even begin to cover the ride. I mention the brake placement because the traditional seat stay placement means you have to get creative with the rack and fender installations.

    The Surly LHT and the Cross Check are also both great options. There’s a reason you see alot of them.

    The Jamis Coda may not have the tire clearance your looking for. My wife has one and whenever I put 32mm cross tires, I have to inflate them after they are in place, the inflated tires wont make it though the brake pads.

    The Jamis Bassonova may warrant a quick look.

    Cyndi says good things about her Volagi, and that was on my short list if I couldnt get exactly what I wanted; the Van Dessel WTF

    A word on disc brakes; the Avid BB5’s arent worth the time of day. The Avid BB7’s however work very well and are easy to service.

    The only team we’re beating is the slacker team. I don’t know if Rusty Studs is going to win any prizes at all =D

    Yeah, and that wont be for much longer.

    Let the battle of the basement begin!

    Last Years goals;
    “5250 miles
    Total 200
    any 200 k+ rando event.
    More Sunday/Social rides
    multi day event (bike VA or Great Allegheny Trail or something similar)
    Jeremy Bishop (again, this is my favorite ride at this point.)
    more hard weather riding, fewer excuses.
    More active participation in WABA and Bike Arlington events”

    Gonna come up just short on 5250, I’ll probably finish right around 5100
    Total 200- Check!
    More Sunday/Social rides- Check!
    Multi day event- Nope, oh well maybe next year.
    Jeremy Bishop’s Gran Fondo- Nope, but then again I was riding around Amsterdam so , I’m calling this a win
    More Hard Weather Riding- Check, Rule #5 obey’ed
    More active participation in BA/WABA events.- Oh well maybe next year.

    So mixed year.

    I had the strangest kind of missed connection this morning;

    Me; stopped on the WOD looking to cross Sunrise Valley Dr.
    You: In huge Dodge Ram Pickup, slows and moves into middle of the road to block both lanes of traffic for me.

    Me: Uh… WOW THANKS!!!!

    I had a double on the ride home last night. I got to ride with vvill for a couple of miles, all hipstered out in jeans riding a SS. ;). And then I think I pass Hozn in Falls Church, I yelled, but you were past by that point.

    Low and Slow may be the best advice for the morning.

    WOD>Custis- nice thin glaze of ice (that is probably melted by now) Downtown is fine.

    Roads in Falls Church were a little spotty, some ice in the corners.

    Is there a woman regular commuter here, who comes through Vienna at about 7:30? You yelled greetings to me today as we passed, near the Vienna Community center. “HI”
