Agreed. But this happened at 5:30pm. I don’t think I’ve ever been alone on the Custis at 5:30pm

Agreed. I don’t know much about the MBT, as I’ve never been on it. Iwould say though that at 530, I still think you could find yourself alone on 4MR trail. At least for a small windown (30 seconds to a minute). I’m not saying avoid the trails at all, I think they are extremely valuable, and I ride mostly trail on my commute, I was just trying to say that this can happen anywhere based upon trail usage.

To me, this doesn’t highlight too much about the MBT or the NE neighborhoods, but rather it highlights more about how alone you can find yourself on trails. There isn’t much police presence on the trails, at at certain hours and on certain trails, there isn’t that much user activity either. I love trails for their safety in terms of the lack of car interaction (besides drunk drivers), but at certain hours I try to avoid them just based upon not feeling comfortable being alone on them.

I thought he rode the bike with the dogs pulling?

I think he usually does (or he has been when I’ve seen him). Though I think it is not via a seat. I believe it has standing room more akin to a razor scooter.

No need to point wildly to the crappy path next to the road I won’t ride my 23mm tires on or turn on the turbo when you see me catching up to you.

Ha! I had the exact opposite last week. Coming down off the South Capitol St. Bridge a truck was completely blocking the crosswalk ramp at the bottom. I asked him if he could move forward a few feet, so that I could cross (I had the walk sign). There was plenty of room to move forward without entering the intersection. He told me to hop off the front of the curb. I explained that was difficult on a loaded road bike on skinny tires. He then proceeded to yell at me and tell me that I was in the sidewalk, told me it was illegal, and to “Ride on the Road!” Mind you, riding on the road in this situation would have meant taking the lane across the bridge. I explained the law. He rolled his window up.

Not that being hit by a tornado on the way home is super likely, but for those of you that weren’t raised in the midwest with “what to do in case of a tornado “ drilled into you from before you can remember, if you are caught out in the open with a tornado approaching and no basement to hide in, finding a ditch or other low spot and lying flat in it is the recommended approach. Taking shelter under a tree, not so much. (this applies to people in cars too– get out of your car and lie in the ditch)

And underneath an overpass is considered to be, in general, a very bad location. A lot of folks think it would be good, but basically a vaccum effect can take place. Be safe and have bailout points planned along the way if you need them!

Here’s lap one that I took on the ol’ GoPro yesterday. Forgive the bad angles, I need a new camera mount.

Warning: mid-90s rock and Hold Steady are the soundtrack.

Constructive Summer!? That just put me in a really, really good mood. They (esp. Craig Finn) put on one of the most energetic live shows I’ve ever seen. I suppose Hold Steady soundtracks are a requirement for preparing to move to the Twin Cities?

    Thanks for the video.

I am indeed. Circa. I’ll start a threat for it. I was waiting until next week as threads tend to get lost in the shuffle, but since you asked, I’ll be happy to post.

I would say technical t-shirts or soft t-shirts (basically the same). Not technical like most running shirts, which are more mesh, but closer to a really soft cotton feel.

Also, is is possible that they be in BA-Baby Blue?

The baked eggs recipe is AWESOME! I was skeptical. They turned out great!

My wife makes something similar looking for breakfast throughout the week, perhaps the same thing? She scrambles twelve eggs, adds a tiny bit of milk, and then pours it into a twelve count muffin tin. She then adds whatever she fancies that day (ham and cheese, basil, halved grape tomatoes, cheese, salt and pepper, etc) and bakes it for about 20 minutes. They keep really well for about 5-7 days, and make a really easy and tasty breakfast treat without having to cook in the morning. We usually microwave it for 20 seconds or so.

I’m a pretty mediocre uncle, being that I’m mostly absent from my nephews’/niece’s lives (LOVE the kiddos, just don’t get back home too much). But all that will change in the next few years when much to my nephew and his parents’ surprise, he’ll be getting his first drop bar road bike from Uncle Steve! He’s six now, I figure if he doesn’t take his training seriously soon, then he’ll never ride Le Tour.

It seems at this point that you should probably have “Hypothetical Bike” as one of your Strava bike choices, that way you can accurately log all your test riding.

I have pedals #2 as well. I like them a lot. The flat side is a little slippy, but I tend to use them only when I’m not in a hurry and so it’s not really a big issue. I enjoy having the option to just go somewhere in all normal clothes.

That being said, I wonder if they make more sense for your current bike than the new. I figure the close to home errand running/hanging out stuff mike still be done on the old one, not the new?

Also, part of this probably depends on type of riding, specifically trails vs. streets. If you are clipping back in a lot on city streets, you might not like having to flip them around as much. I ride mostly trail, and so once I’m clipped in, I’m usually there for a while. That probably makes the inconvenience a little less.

I’ll be leaving L’Enfant Plaza sometime between 4 and 5 if anyone wants to meet up. I plan to go over the 14th St Bridge (because, seriously, Georgetown in afternoon rush? No thanks). 14th St Bridge CaBi station is a good meetup spot, and I’m flexible on timing.

I can meet up at that Cabi station at about 440 if that works for you. That should put us at the intersection of doom around 5. Sound good?
