rosslyn was definitely bumpin, but crystal city had a sweeeet fountain. so much fun this morning. probably put in 40 miles before noon what with some errands i got lost during.

and i got a very enthusiastic “good morning” from a runner on the WOD in falls church, i wish i had time to register what she said and respond with more than a smile & nod.
good day for everyone it seemed.

i’ve got a custom geekhouse and love the hell out of it.
i love fixed for a few reasons:
low maintenance/less to break/less to have stolen
more in-tune with the bike (similar to driving a stick shift)
always pedaling (which is good training for cycling in general)
and it looks so damn fresh…

it has since gained drops and a black stem.

(and i’ll always use a front brake)

I figured it would be a busy “on your left” day, so I actually counted the number of times I said it -98

bells for the win. had i said “on your left” the amount of times i rang that, i’d have no voice left!

Scientificuh-lee speakin’, pink attracts honeybees and gnats. They will congregate and swarm on the pink fabric, expecting to find nectar. Frustrated by not finding nectar, they will call on their compatriots to help in the search. More and more bees and gnats will swarm, eventually creating a rough textured biomass of bees and gnats. Not only is this huge mass of bees/gnats non-aerodynamic, it’s also kind of uncomfortable. But it does provide a steady source of protein for longer rides. You just have to be careful while eating the stingers.

if they all spread the wings in sync, you can fly too.

I want to be in DC by 8 am, I work by 18&E st NW
So I guess I have to hit the trail by 6AM…?

judging by the likely traffic and the amount of cross streets on the WOD…id make that 5:30/45.

It doesn’t sound like your Ford is aging all that well. Have you had it regularly service over the course of its’ life until now?
Have they warned you these items were aging and will require replacement?

the truck is usually in NY and my family has a mechanic that they trust there and have been dealing with for many years. we do the regular maintenance thing and often have no issues with the mechanic. the truck is more than a decade old and spent 75% it’s life/miles driving over two mountain ranges twice a day. the jury is still out for me though with regards to the ‘family mechanic’ because one of his guys had looked at the rear brake in January when I said it was grinding (exactly the same thing i asked these wiygul guys to do), and they didn’t mention any of these issues. it’s not like we expect it to live for more than a year or two more though. and i won’t need a car as i tour this summer and then finish my last year of school. so it wouldnt be a noticeable loss to be honest.

also, i ended up taking it to baird this afternoon. that guy is definitely built like a cyclist, probably didnt even have to tell me and i wouldve known.

An even higher proportion are probably being being by drivers who simply don’t think to look to the right when making a right turn. Stop and watch how often this happens at Lynn Street sometime. Every close call I’ve had at Lynn Street has been becuse the driver has not looked to his/her right — sometimes they don’t even realize they have a green light, they just see there’s a gap in traffic. (As a pedestrian, since I am on the sidewalk, I see this all to often at Stop signs and red lights.)

i’m guilty of this. had a close call with 2 peds on wilson blvd when it’s a one way in march. felt terrible about it and haven’t made that mistake since.

love mountain biking, but i’ve been neglecting it in favor of training for the tour. i used to downhill but my shoulders decided to start dislocating and i figured hitting trees would not be conducive to their continual operation.. so now i ride SS rigid 29er when i can. i love it. i bought new pink wheels for it this spring :)

love the idea of this. if i wasn’t leavin thatd likely be a benefit to my commute, though i do like my current route of wolftrap->woodford->gosnell/old courthouse. it’s pretty pain free.

this was their assessment..well, what i could copy down from the phone convo we had when he said it all.

    Brake hoses are severely cracked
    Brake master cylinder leaking
Front left brake caliper is frozen/sticking
Rotors in the front are rusted out
Parking/Emergency brake cable on the right is frozen as well
Rear brake drums are bad, especially the right one.
Left front, inner and outer tie rods
    Rear shocks/struts are leaking
    Air bag light’s on
    Rear axle differential is leaking

    Brake repairs only $2,500
    -Hoses alone are $650
    Inner tie rods $400

…and they said there seems to be more problems elsewhere

Kathy, it was Wiygul Automotive in Herndon (I work there occasionally).

Thank you Kathy, Alex, and Chris, I’ll definitely look all of them up. A friend of mine also recommended Circle Auto Repair in Fairfax.
