ParticipantLooks like the ‘people’ section is throwing errors (500 Internal Server Error)?
Did the soft launch score period start this week? I’m not showing up, yet.

While nice, that doesn’t do much for him (or whomever else builds it), since it plows behind the bike. The person who builds one and uses it should get an automatic WWDD nomination.
It’s for plowing fresh snow, so that you don’t have to bike on lumpy ice for the following week.

If price is an issue, bikesdirect has a fair number of cross bikes with disc breaks:
http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/cross_bikes.htmHa, yes, I expected. I even had a retort, but apparently in the last month or so, most of their bikes have moved their disc mounts from the seat stay to the chain stay, making fenders and racks more doable.

I used to think I wanted the ultimate commuter bike too, … but I commute on it less than I expected…
If it were me, I would probably go with a Salsa FargoI have space constraints, so this’ll be my only bike. I seem to be out in the muck regardless of how much my bike hates it, so I’m not too worried about how much I’ll ride it.
I have an inquiry in with this guy, so that Fargo may come to pass (or not – that ad is ancient).

Well, a gold plated bike would also be corrosion resistant, but given the parenthetical comment on the titanium one I left those options off.
Many of the aluminum ones come with steel forks, so I’m not sure how much it buys me. The Kona Jake is all aluminum and doesn’t look like a bad choice, so I put it on the list. In practice (on my steel commuter), frame rust is just cosmetic. Everything else will die a thousand deaths in the rain before rust compromises the integrity of the frame.

I’d personally lean toward aluminum rather than steel for a winter commuter. And if you want 45mm clearance you’re going to have a pretty short list; if you drop your requirement to 35 or 40 you’ll have a lot more choices and can still get studs & fenders.
That’s why there’s the titanium one on the list
40 + fenders is fine. Usually they required 5-8mm of clearance, thus the 45mm total.

I didn’t feel so lucky on the way home(!), but I did get my fenders on.
I didn’t mind the rain, even in jeans, but then I had to stand there cleaning off my bike while fresh cookies beckoned. The torture!

ParticipantMe: Biking counter-clockwise around the Cherry Lane / Greenbelt Metro circle.
You: Driving a sedan clockwise around the circle, then driving down the wrong side of Greenbelt Metro Drive. That was… crazy. Eventually you figured out something was wrong, and used the crosswalk to cross over the median.

I also think of it in a training mode: Every time you slow and stop, it’s a chance for interval training.
Stop signs are my track-stand practice. Sadly, after several hundred hours of riding, I can only stand for 2-3 seconds 50% of the time*. If I end up commuting through DC next year, I’ll probably get better quickly.
* I assume this would work better without a freewheel.

If you just had a bright enough light, you wouldn’t notice the blinking at all!

For awhile we were trying to come up with a good team T-shirt at work. We were using JavaScript extensively so we were trying to think of something funny with anonymous callbacks or callback chaining … or prototype object model … But we never came up with anything T-shirt worthy.

This is a DRAFT of the form. Does this look about right? Feel free to BETA test it. Any entries will be deleted when it goes live in a couple of days.
Does it need instructions on how to find your Strava ID? I know how to find it (log on to strava, click my username, and copy it out of the URL), but that’s probably non-obvious to the uninitiated.

ParticipantT’was only a morning commute because I left work at 11:59:45PM. I also discovered that not all systems appreciate vigorous use of the bitshift-right operator:

ParticipantMichelin has an article with a pressure-vs-weight recommendation chart:
