bikeyface and bike advocates in Boston did this cool thing: https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2017/05/22/cyclists-respond-walsh-comments-with-tactical-urbanism-cutouts/V1T6kI6FzSFywpAIBaP7AI/story.html (basically turned bikeyface comics into fatheads and placed them around the city)

Something fun like this would be awesome in Arlington (and DC). Any cool ideas?

I’m running low today myself. I’ve only gotten as far as thinking of famous Arlingtonians — Warren Beatty, Sandra Bullock (maybe something Speed related?), John Glenn (space related, duh?)

    Ideas?

Do we get to claim Dave Grohl as an Arlingtonian?

Nope, cuz he went to Annandale High School.

    You can have Katie Couric.

Well, there’s Ian MacKaye, but I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be cool with having his likeness co-opted.

Imagine the sign… “I am a patient boy. I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait….. for pedestrians in the crosswalk.”

But he wrote a song called Arlandria!

And imagine a picture of Dave with the caption, “You’re the Foo’ I’ve been fighting all these years.”

Which happens to be in the City of Alexandria ;)

But look for this on your strava feed.

I’m still trying to win this one. He also wrote a song called “Weanie Beanie” which has only one remaining location which is in Arlington. Arlington is claiming Dave. We’ll honor him by constructing a Dave FatHead that says, “Don’t be a Weenie Beenie! Give three feet to pass.”

We could compromise and put Dave Grohls up near the border.

And one should go in front of the Weanie Beanie, and say “Don’t be a Weanie Beanie! Let these people cross.” At the WB crosswalk

Mark Hamill AKA, Luke Skywalker went to Annandale too. Perhaps a light saber to enforce the 3 foot rule?

Sandra Bullock went to Washington and lee IIRC.

If Halloween parties in DC have taught me anything, if we were to go for this across the Potomac all you have to do is make a topical news or political reference/likeness and folks will eat it up. Or heck! There’s always presidents.

For sharrows (or all ahem *all* roads) “These roads are bike-partisan”

In any large arterial roads cutting through new “hip” development, a familiar figure extolling “Your SPEED is too damn high! (Slow your roll)”

Up on the hill you can have a congress member at a lectern saying: “I yield to pedestrians sir,” or pouring over reames of documents: “Take care when passing riders”

We’re a city of wonky nerds.

I’m sort of partial to Weenie Bernie for that. I may sketch Grohl holding a 3ft hot dog.

You’ve included Warren Beatty but not his sister, Shirley Maclaine. How about Patch Adams? He went to Wakefield HS in Arlington and last I heard still lives in Arlington – I used to see him from time to time around EFC. And Tipper Gore!

Tipper Gore with a Parental Advisory Sticker sign. It’ll work.
