Welcome, I started out from a BTWD too. It’s getting better and more fun every year. To keep up with my bone density, I run twice a week so I can yell at the cyclists that passing too close without call their pass.

Around 6:30, the water at both Wilson blvd and Carlin Springs underpass were very deep so I didn’t even try it. I took the detours. The water was smelling really bad, like sewer water.

On the bike to work day, I’m joining the G8 leaders summit to demand more funding for the bike infrastructure.

NPS is not very helpful. I’m taking it to the G8 leaders.

What is the best way to get from NW DC back to W&OD avoiding Curtis Trail arlington hills?
    Via Wilson Blvd? (Rosslyn-Clarendon-Balston route)

MVT to W&OD but it will add 4 miles to your commute.

All the morning stops have coffee. Which afternoon stops have beers?

Custis Trail is 4 miles shorter but will be congested. I will be on trail around 6:10 AM from Sunrise Valley if you need a riding partner.

The shorted distance is the I-66 bridge, Virginia Ave, and F. You need to give yourself extra time. The Custis trail will be congested tomorrow morning. I will skip the Custis trail and ride via Fairfax drive tomorrow for extra stop at Freshbike.

Alexandria to Four Mile Run to MVT, hit the CC stop, over the 14th St bridge, up to Freedom Plaza stop, down Penn Ave, up to the Mount Vernon stop, and back down to work.

Fyi, there is no Freedom Plaza pit stop this year. It will be relocated to Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.

My stops are Vienna, Merrifield, Falls Church, Freshbikes, Rosslyn, Woodrow Wilson Plaza.

You need to try the North Shore Drive when coming back to Great Falls. There are more downhills and little uphill. It’s fun. My average speed on this section is above 27 MPH.

    A more detailed response:

If I start at the front and accelerate to 18mph normally once the light turns green, I can hit the next light at Hunters Mill road right as it turns yellow. This stops any traffic that hasn’t passed me by that point. Once I’m sure Baron Cameron is clear behind me, I merge into the left lane and then immediately turn left at Lake Fairfax Drive (next light). From there, I parallel Baron Cameron on nice back roads. Hunt Club Rd to Ring Road to N Shore Drive, which are all lightly trafficked and wide.

For you, you can either turn left on Wiehle (depends how comfortable you are in traffic), take the path on Wiehle (rough and narrow, but fine at low speed) or you could keep following N Shore across Wiehle all the way to Temporary Rd, follow that to Old Reston and then take that down the hill to the W&OD, then run back to Wiehle (most pleasant, a bit more mileage).

I rode this same route before. Most roads are very quite and little car except for short ride on Baron Cameron. I wouldn’t recommend take left on Wiehle Ave. Cars can speed up to 45 MPH on this road.

I saw RESTONTODC last night, but I would have had to make him stop to take a photo. I don’t have Dirt’s talent.

Liz, I’m sorry to do “hi and run” last night. I was late for the soccer game. If you have camera, I will stop for picture next time.

I need to get up early so I can join the Dirt’s Party ride. Since I sleep without a clock, I always can’t get out the house by 9.

    Sad! Condolences to the family.

I drove this road a lot when I was in Maryland. It’s narrow, blind curves with many speeding drivers.

This occurs to me recently. My dear friend gave me a pair of new tires. I got many flats but I couldn’t find the cause of flats. When I changed tube on the road, the portable pump didn’t pump enough air for the cuts and gashes to show up. When I pump to 130 psi with a floor pump at home, I noticed the tire got a lot cuts and gashes. The cut was wide and small rocks got in that caused the flats. The labels on the tire are also peeling off. For my safety, I replaced them with a good commute tires. My theory is that my friend stores his tires in his wet and damp basement for 2 years. The environment caused the tire deterioration.

Why would cyclists cross a truck that is giving a signal turn?

I watched the video again but didn’t see the truck turn signal. It’s a dumb idea when passing a truck on the right if the truck has a turn signal, even in a car.
