ParticipantOye. That’s sad. I use to comment on FB that one of the advantages of cycling is no roadkills. Then I saw that a field mouse had been run over on the Jefferson end of the 14th St Bike Bridge.
When I see small animals on the trail, I try to act as mean and scarey as I can (this usually doesnt take a lot of work). There have been a lot of baby ducks down on the MVT.

ParticipantIt’s the intent that counts – 100 x 3.5 is 350 points for the NBC!!!

ParticipantFABB is I believe a WABA project
We encourage all cyclists to help make Fairfax County and Northern Virginia a better place to bike. What can you do?
Contact FABB to find out how you can work with us to accomplish our goals. Visit the Events page for information about upcoming public meetings.
Show up for public hearings and voice your support for better bicycle facilities.
Attend land use meetings to ensure that developers provide bicycle facilities for employees and customers. Showers, lockers, and changing rooms will encourage more employees to bike to work. Safe, secure, covered parking is needed by all cyclists at employment and retail centers.Visit the Fairfax County Web site to find out about land use meetings in the supervisor districts. Visit the FABB site on a regular basis to learn about upcoming public meetings where your voice can be heard.
Join WABA, which supports FABB, to help “create a healthy, more livable region by promoting bicycling for fun, fitness and affordable transportation; advocating better bicycling conditions and transportation choices for a healthier environment; and educating children, adults and motorists about safe bicycling.“
Join the Virginia Bicycling Federation. VBF advocates at the state level for legislation that supports cyclists.
Join the League of American Bicyclists. The League supports many national efforts to improve conditions for cyclists.

ParticipantIn seriousness, I wonder if at 7 pm WMATA will be deluged with bicyclists who opted out of their afternoon commute. I think I am one of them and I know another guy in the office who is planning the same.

ParticipantAt blind points on the trail, I have a habit of gratuitously ringing my bell – particularly the tunnels under Carlin Springs and N Fairfax. That entire section of the Custis is filled with blind and dangerous spots.

ParticipantI say make this a regular, while the sun is still in the sky and the younguns dont drag us off to the relatives house in August.
July 12th. Shirlington. Cap City. Lets have pretzels!

ParticipantFriday Coffee Club is a lot like the Bike Arlington crew, only its the DC crew. A lot of the twitter #bikedc people show. I have thoroughly enjoyed both. I think there was a #fridaycoffeeclub hash tag. Peter goes. I go. VVill goes. Who else from Bike Arlington?
No, next friday July 6 will probably be lightly attended.
I am thinking we should start a regular 😡 > “Attitude Adjustment Hour” > :p on Thursday evenings somewhere that works for the DC/Arlington crowd. Personally, Shirlington is marvelous. Maybe Crystal City. Maybe rotate it through a set of standards?

ParticipantFirst FANTASTIC.
The Oxon Hill Club also has a google calendar.

Ooh you have some good stuff on that. There are also the bikeshop rides and stuff. Do you want this to be a group project? Would you want help from a few of us? I have found myself plunking through different local groups websites looking for calendars of events.

ParticipantWe always cheer Arlington police enforcing HOV on 66 and we know they are not there just to fulfill quotas.

ParticipantIt’s like roulette. You just never know. I found the CCT after being directed by Google Maps to a portion of the trail that was not there. Or it was, but it was only a hiking trail. That was south of Lake Accontik (sp?). The trail to the lake was paved. But the trail from the lake north was crossed stone. Until it was paved again. It was paved under major roads like Rt 50. Some places it was large stone gravel (I walked). At Wakefield its rutted hard trail (damn mount bikers). But the park that drops you into the stream was cement. Mill Creek Park was paved. Until around the corner it wasnt and you had to dive under and underpass. Then in a while the pavement started up again. When I got up on Lee Highway I lost the CCT until I got near the Vienna Metro when I found it again.
Bring maps and a GPS. I knew a lot of these parks from geocaching so I had a good sense of where I should be even if I wasnt.
I have also been down at Occoquan. The trail at that end is paved. But I have not followed it far. The CCT goes north of Lorton Prison (now closed) and the park there is also a GREAT MTB park.
I have also been on the CCT near the Potomac. I think there is pretty much only counts as a hiking trail.
