Regular cyclist meetups

We’ve mentioned things in various other threads, but I thought it would be nice to gather any regular meetups in one place. Not necessarily rides, because there’s a new thread and Google calendar for that, but things like coffee or beer with bikey people.

First, there is Friday Coffee Club. Check #FridayCoffeeClub on Twitter. Every Friday, from about 730 until about 9am, bike people meet at Swings Coffee. Many of the forum regulars show up, uh, regularly. Tomorrow if I can work out the timing I’m going to bring my adorable almost-two-year-old on the way to her doctor appointment.

In the “Missed Connections” thread, rcannon100 suggested a regular Thursday happy hour meetup, perhaps rotating around the area. I think this is an awesome idea (Beer Thursday evening, coffee Friday morning – perfect!).

For those with kids – last weekend we went to Yards Park for the first time. It’s very bike friendly, and my kids LOVED it. We’re going back this Saturday around 930am, and I think it might get to be a pretty regular thing.

What else?

I’m definitely onboard for kid-related get-togethers. Maia is just a little too young (and I dont have a trailer/kid’s seat yet) so I may not show up by bike, but I’ve been keen to get over to the Yards with her.

My kids loved Yards Park (mostly the pool) when we went for Tour de Fat but getting there with kids by bike is tough (and the alternatives aren’t too much fun). I might be able to do a mostly drive – part bike trip there though. I’ll have to experiment. I’ve never tried hauling both kids at the same time.

I’m all up for a kids meetup, but Yards Park isn’t realistic for us most weekends.

Maybe something in Arlington? A sprayground? Or a ride, even?

Arlington is a little far for me with the kids, but not out of the question.

As an Arlingtonian who has tried to join some of the rides, I’ve realized that kid group rides are all about proximity — It just seems wrong to drive to a bike ride. So I think there should be a Kidical Mass Arlington.

Of course, I’ve dropped the ball in organizing one — I was talking to the Kidical Mass DC people, but with the move and morning sickness, I couldn’t make it happen. But those excuses are pretty much old news for me, so maybe we can get something going for July or August. Would people be interested? And I was thinking a morning meetup at some place with food, then a ride to a park/sprayground/nature center. Does that sound like a plan? Other suggestions?

For the DC July ride, Meghan (the organizer) is taking suggestions…
