A vote for the Castelli Estremo gloves. They are fine for up to 1.5 hours or so even in the temperatures we are facing these last couple of days – you feel the cold by the end of the ride, but nothing too problematic.

Not tried in the wet yet. The insulation is quite thick, so you do lose a bit of dexterity. And no using devices with these on either.

Ok, that was chilly. Now can we go back to a wee bit warmer temperatures?

Nice to see all the other riders on the Custis this morning!

Wait, so you didn’t use your winter cycling gear this AM? 😮

Pleasant if chilly commute. Left under the snow flurries in Arlington and arrived in DC nice and well chilled. The wind by Gravelly Point will be a pleasure to have behind me on the commute home… if the wind does not turn (as it always does).

I have the Jamis Renegade (one of the options mentioned by Dirt in his hugely informative post) and love it.

It does not fit your criteria completely in that the bottom bracket is an EVO PressFit 30, not the best of choices but I was so enamored with the bike that I decided to go with it anyway.

Cannot say enough good things about the bike, which I daily commute on and have also ridden centuries on (trying desperately not to get dropped by Boomer, but that is a different story that has more to do with my excess fat and low horsepower legs than the bike).

I even like the Shimano Ultegra group (love the hydro brakeset). And that is coming from a Campagnolo guy (although I am secretly overjoyed with the announcement of a new Campagnolo full groupset with hydro discs…).

    Pneumonia.

Oh and a small drone. Which already doesn’t work but was great fun for about the 20 minutes that it flew.

I will be there, as I cannot allow my BAFS nemesis (aka Boomer) to attend without my supervision.

Should my pneumonia allow, I will ride (all hail antibiotics, codeine infused cough syrups and inhalers).

I want a set of the ankle band doodads also.

Yup. Why not just a friendly hello while passing one another?

Christmas came a wee bit early – ok, more like I succumbed to Thanksgiving sales:

New commuting shoes. Back to my beloved Sidis (nothing wrong with my current pair of Giro shoes, but I just find the Sidi shoes to fit better).

And a pair of SPD pedals with a decent platform (changing my opinion on my love of Look pedals – fine for regular riding but I have come to prefer the double-sided entry for commuting).

This evening I was simply not paying attention and almost took out a fellow rider. I passed a jogger in the blind corner approaching corkscrew hill (I know) just as a rider was coming downhill. Head on collision avoided, he stopped me and demanded an apology, which I sheepishly provided.

It was all completely my fault. I feel terrible. So please be careful out there – I consider myself a safe rider and this evening I endangered the safety of another cyclist and a jogger. Not really sure how I allowed this to happen… the best I can come up with was that I was distracted thinking about work.

So if the other rider is on this forum, I apologize once again. That was a dumb, dumb move.

Not that bad this AM – everything nice and wet but only a light drizzle.

Should be raining harder this evening… I am getting used to this.

@ Lt. Dan, often the case, but not always. I believe that other online shops are increasingly aligning prices with them on some of the name brand bits.

Their return policy is very good (once returned an item at no cost to me three separate times on occasion of funky shoe sizing…).

Decent sales today @ Competitive Cyclist for high-end name brand bits, including a 20% discount on the most expensive item in your cart… worth looking at, at the very least.

My morning commute was… very, very wet.

Still beats driving or Metro though!

Giro, Tour and Classics videos are very helpful in passing the time while on a trainer… at least for a lackadaisical southern European… :p
