By the way, I assume everyone knows about this, but just in case, the snow priority streets and trails of Arlington:

Forecast.io was saying 1-4 inches all day yesterday.

That is very disturbing to say the least. Easy miles on my commutes are now gone.

Having said this, I am a bit concerned that things will be rather icy for the rest of the week/weekend if the forecast holds as-is. Might not be a good idea to ride to work tomorrow if it really is as cold as they are saying…

BTW, can anyone report on road conditions at Hains Point today? Wondering whether it might make sense to get a lap or two in this evening on the way home…

Does it usually get cleaned by the Park folks?

Regardless, if you are on your road bike like some idiots, go real slow and steady. MTBs and studs should do fine (bikes with studs, that is…well, FS studs, too!)

Proud to be a fellow idiot this AM! ;)

Nice meeting Steve this AM on the Custis trail… interesting commute into work in the snow. Worst bit was probably the Key Bridge that had not been cleared at all.

    It was fun… now, this afternoon… ;)

Nice. Looking forward to your thoughts on the Chrome bag when you have spent some time with it… currently commuting with excellent Arkel Panniers, but looking for a different “off bike” solution to be able to switch to a lighter bike when the mood takes me…

All in all a good evening commute, although I suffered the cold. Winter cycling shoes, new supah cold weather gloves and new toasty bibs on order.

Saw a good number of joggers at Hains Point this evening – was expecting to see more riders but that did not happen. The wind (I must have been fortunate) was there but not gale force or anything…

Holy moly it was cold on my ride home tonight. Holy moly.

I am not certain I like this FS concept… :p

Noted with thanks. Will commute to work in the morning and then make a decision on the afternoon leg… in the afternoon.

Having never ever ever ridden in snow before, would it be foolhardy to commute into work tomorrow assuming we do get the 1-2 inches forecast as of now?

I have Vittoria 28s on my commuter… and a pair of thicker off-road tires that I took off my bike as soon as I purchased it that I might be able to find somewhere in the garage. No intention of buying and mounting studded tires yet (assuming they are even easy to find on short notice in DC).

I could not handle a lap of Hains Point this morning on my first day back at work in the new year. I need to do a lap or three this evening… not looking forward to it…

Pleasant enough commute with the wind pushing me along this AM. This evening may be more challenging. Here’s to praying to the wind gods to shift things around in time for 17:30 office departure time!

A wee bit concerned by the possibility of temperatures in the teens Thursday. Looked it up and converted to C and yelped.

This FS thing will be more exciting and help me build temperature fortitude far in excess to what a soft Southern European should have to…

Plan on joining the Jefferson CaBi convoy… I am directionally challenged and don’t want to put in too many miles on the 9th desperately trying to find the darn pub… :-)

Kudos to our software overlords from me also.

On a related note, does the data upload from Strava to the Freezing Saddles leaderboard happen at regular times during the day or is more “real time”?

    Just curious…
