Go ahead and shift into whatever gear it takes to get yourself up that hill.
I don’t think I have that gear. I looked.
(I just need to keep reminding myself I’ve gone from riding 0 miles a year to riding 20 miles in a day, I can’t expect to have secret stores of extra leg power to call on to get me up hills yet. Especially not after fighting that wind yesterday – I couldn’t even get up off the saddle to mash the pedals going up The Hill of Doom. And after battling up that, I was DONE. Slight inclines were mocking me.

I don know Kel, that “bicycle” your sitting on in your pic – it looks like it has motor assist. Doesnt that thang result in miles getting subtracted? :p
I wished I was on the moped trying to get up That Hill tonight!

ParticipantHoly headwind, Batman! I’m counting double miles for the trip home today. I pedaled twice as far as I went! Just stopped in Shirlington for a frosty cold lemonade before I tackle The Hill. I believe my face has discovered a new shade of red.

Could also work for lady chests, I’m not a scientition.
^^ New favorite quote.
The advantage of lady chests is you can put ice in your sports bra.
Actually people with man chests can put ice in their sports bras too, not tryin’ to be bra-ist or nothin’.

ParticipantThat looks a bit painful… you might wanna get that looked at.
I was looking for your pink bike but I did not see you – you were probably a blur

So you’ve settled on a route? Up to 4MR and over to Mt. V, I presume? How’s that final hill on the way home working out?
Yep! I went through Shirlington this morning (although I didn’t have enough time to stop for coffee – I left a little later than planned) and that was much better. I’ll let you know how the hill is today, it about killed me on BTWD.

I used to think I couldn’t commute fixed either, I was wrong. I think that’s a great goal to set for yourself.
– a moron
Goal set! We were admiring some fixies at CityBikes today
Also, I have decided to call all passes even when walking

FYI: a tailor (or someone handy with a sewing machine) can remove the elastic easily and re-sew the arms as regular seams.
You rang?

ParticipantWell that makes sense

ParticipantSo why ARE bar-end shifters better/mechanically superior/more fixable than brifters?
Me, I know nothing.

Clearly, the only solution is multiple bikes.
I find your ideas intriguing, and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

To me, a skinny-tired fixie with no brakes seems like a TERRIBLE idea for commuting…
Mind you, I think fixies are hella cool looking and I want to try riding one as soon as possible, I just don’t think me and my jello legs could commute on one. Unless Arlington Ridge would like to obligingly sink into the earth. Oo, if it did that I could commute on that sugar skulls Electra Cruiser with the tassels on the handlebars that I secretly covet!
Secretly.

ParticipantThat’s awesome!
I was just thinking I needed to post something about the dream I had last night in which I was painting the floor of a velodrome being built for a team of zombie cyclists… I gotta stop reading Grant Petersen before bed.
Back to your actual topic – I’ve got my eye on some Twin Six jerseys… and there are about 4 more Nutcase helmets I want..
