Participant“Re-cyclery”. That’s awesome.

I would also set the lights to blink mode. That’s more noticeable to others than a steady beam. Sometimes when there’s another cyclist nearby with a steady light, I will mistake that light source for a street lamp, not realizing that it’s a cyclist until he/she gets much closer.
This. I’ve noticed (on the rare occasions when I drive my car) that blinking lights on a bike are much easier to see. Solid lights just sort of blend into the background.
I’ve got the Spoke Eze disco lights, meself.
(plus blinky tail lights on helmet, bag, and bike and two blinky front lights)

ParticipantQuick, someone go tag that tree at the first airport ramp and stake out a straighter trail!
KelOnWheels
ParticipantInteresting. Wonder how it would do in a DC summer?

If you eat the bike frame, then how will you ride home?

ParticipantYeah, Capital Weather Gang just apologized. Weird little summer blow-up they weren’t expecting.

ParticipantWho got rained on on the way home? I got a nice soaking from the Mall to the Fish Market, stopped by the Jefferson Memorial to take off my rain jacket.
One day i will hit 22 mph on you, Ohio Drive!Outside pocket of waterproof bag not waterproof. Chain is rubbing in big/5 and up, need to look at that. My brakes are crap in the wet.
Got mostly dry on the way home, tons of people on the trail (even more people stuck in car traffic!) so I took it slow, then got rained on some more up the hill. Beats Metro any day

ParticipantSeat high enough? That’s what had my knees going.

ParticipantI need to get a new venty helmet. I don’t trust this one.

Is that the teeny, tiny one stream side just as the trail splits? I’m always concerned I’m going to hit that one as I head east, particularly if there is oncoming traffic.
Yep, that’s the one. I always slow down ridiculously coming east down the hill. It wants to eat tires. I can sense it!

Not to worry anymore — someone put traffic cones over the gap in the plates, so now instead of avoiding the narrow gap near the center line between the two lanes, you only have to worry about hitting the large traffic cones. Is there any problem that traffic cones can’t solve?
WE’RE SAVED!
Well at least you can bounce gently off the cones into oncoming traffic prior to getting run over, rather than dropping a wheel into the gap and going out with a dramatic OTB vault.

ParticipantWhat a great morning!
Coming up by Ohio Drive/the Tidal Basin was interesting as usual, today they set up a little obstacle course for us to get around with sidewalk closures and traffic cones and giant holes.
I was kinda slow except when I wasn’t but that was OK.There is a teeny little collard on the 4MRT by Rt. 1. It makes me nervous.
KelOnWheels
ParticipantYeah, that is so not okay. I hope you get your bike back safe & sound!
