So many great public art pieces today on my ride! But the last time I was here this one was incomplete, so I purposefully rode back to see it and use it on my post. This artist, Adrian Lopez, specializes in these “arms out wide” paintings. Many of them are on street corners where residential walls provide canvases begging for adornment.

Notice re: 1/6/24 word — CABLE or STONE

If you haven’t been able to post your photo from 1/6 and think it’s too late, please go ahead. Enough people were having trouble getting things into the forum yesterday that we’re extending grace. 🙂

If you took a photo depicting CABLE or STONE on 1/6 (per your strava), and are able to get it posted here before we do the next round of awards (i.e., 1/13), we’ll consider it for the forum prize.

As of today, 1/7, we think the posting problems are settling down, so we’re all back to the original guidelines.

This is supposed to be fun, not stressful, so we wish you rides of whimsy, serendipity, and joy!

Oh the irony. We gave you “STONE” as an alternative word yesterday and now Wordle gives us “STONY” for today.

FIRST SET OF AWARDS!

1/1    MURAL – DCAKen, LeftyLaura, Steve O, and Indiana — DCAKen captured a set of murals that would inspire someone to go see them. Steve and Laura both brilliantly lined up your steeds with the mural subject. Indiana – your juxtaposition of the bikes and their colors with the mural was lovely. And Dogs!

1/2   AGING – This one was tough but bikesnick inspired us with his photo of wine barrels. The best kind of aging, we think.

1/3  TWIRL – nothing really grabbed us so no points for this topic. Blame Wordle.

1/4  SCANT – bikesnick with his little ribbon of blue sky and CaseyKane50 with his models

1/5  LUNGE – ChristinaSwartz for her photo of the Marine Corps Memorial (a/k/a Iwo Jima). If there was ever a lunge that mattered, this was it.

My plan is to announce each Saturday evening. Thank you everyone for being persistent, creative, and patient while we work the Forum issues. You are all awesome!

Kris – I just thought of a good prize for tie-breaker. Alamo Flag Company in Falls Church has a wealth of flag-related stuff to choose from. I just checked their website and they’re in the process of moving from their current location but maybe by the end of FS they’ll be set up for browsing.

It won’t be me winning, so no self-interest here. Just a fun local business to support.

For today’s submission you have options. You can look for the word we gave you, STONE.

OR you can use the wordle which is CABLE.

Illustrate either one with a photo. Not both. You choose. One photo.

As we’re all working out the kinks of the new forum, this is a reminder to please:

a) include your photo on your strava ride if you’re using the hashtag #scavhunt. In other words, if you use the hashtag on strava, there should be at least one photo in that strava record that illustrates the #scavhunt word. There can be more than one but pick the best for:

b) post ONE photo in the forum in the correct format (date, word). If you want to give us a caption to help us make the connection. The bad thing about Wordle is these are weird words! The good thing about Wordle is that it’s not our (Kelley & Serdar’s) fault that these are weird words.
